Thanks Shortdawg--but I don't think I'll use a Heatwave son on a heifer--call me cautious, but that's just me!!  I've got both Gus and JPJ in the tank so that's probably what we'll use on the Vortec heifer.

Sorry, I guess I was thinking she had already calved (cooked all night long - no sleep). I wouldn't use him on a heifer either.

Probably not worth the risk Lynn, but I am going to try some of the Felony bull this season and have been told that he could possibly calve easy. Most of the Kojak calves come weighing in the 70s, but he being out of a full sib to Yellow Jacket leaves some room for question. I think that it would be an interesting mating for the Char heifer, but maybe should wait a year. Have you happened to pelvic measure the heifers? Brent

Brent,

No I haven't done any pelvic measurements yet.    I usually let our vet do that when I have him out for something else and fortunately we haven't needed him lately!!

Good to hear from you!!

Just thought I'd get some input on what you might breed these two heifers to?   The first is our Vortec X Myrtle Bo and the Char is a Dr Who X a Wyoming Wind daughter.

Don't know about the shorthorn, I would suggest  Grizz on the smoke .

Don't use Lead On on heifers. We have used about 90 units of him, not a hfr. bull.

I would definitely go JPJ on the shorthorn, I'm a little different but I'd go All About WHo or Tyson on the Charolais. Or I'll send you semen on my Friction son...free. He'd be awesome on her.

You're gonna try Felony? The same Felony that was at NWSS this year? He sure did have a cool look for a Hi% Char. I think you're gonna hafta watch the same things on him as you are Alias though: FRONT ENDS.  The biggest fault I saw in the young Felony bull was that he liked to toe out on both fronts. He didn't look too bad off the fronts most of the time, but when he was getting tired in his stall, and a little lazy, he started kicking them out more.  That being said, if you have one with good front legs and shoulder angle on her and wanna make some really cool smokes, Felony might be the ticket.
