Moderate. Not too big, but definitely glued and balled.

I don't, but I'll try to explain it best I can. Just for fair warning this could turn into an epic failure, but I could teach you in person in a matter of minutes. Imagine the tail kinda like an onion. It has layers. Peel back the outer layer, and hold the inside layers in your hand. At this point I've always found it easier to hold the tail up side down. Tease is with a scotch comb, and then hit it with a little glue, and make it into a teardrop ball like shape. Don't worry about how it looks, just get the general shape close. Let the glue dry for a second then let the tail back down. Now take the outside layer of hair you haven't glued and nicely place it around what you've already done. Hit it with a touch of glue, and shape it a little more. Don't worry so much about the inside part of the tail facing the calf, nobody will ever see that. You shouldn't have to clip any, but if you do its usually just knocking a few long hairs off the bottom/underside of the ball. On a side note, when shaping don't be afraid to mash it together and hold it for a second. You'll be surprised how much spring it has when you let go.

Great explanation. My daughter uses a black hair band or hair claw to hold the top layer of hair out of her way while she is working on the inside shape. With the claw, she just clips the top layer up to the tail bone above the hair she is teasing. Also, she explains it looks like a tear drop when you are done.

Practice makes perfect. It's really not that hard at all.

Thanks! It actually turned out better than I expected. Usually these -how to- posts go south in a hurry because theirs a lot of personal touch & style that words can't describe.

I'd love to make one, but they wouldn't let me take my cattle to college with me lol. I probably won't see or touch a calf until late september when fairs and jack pot shows start rolling again  :'(
