when do you switch from a grower to a finisher feed

How many days from your target show do you stop feeding a grower ration and start feeding a finishing ration?

I always fed a finisher from day 1.  Much easier to drop weight than gain.  plus 2 minus 1

I think it's somewhere between 850-1000 lbs.

Weight alone is no indication of the level of finish/cover.

Some folks that have fed good ones tell me that if you have a little pud steer that is in danger of finishing at 1000-1100 lbs., then keep them on grower longer.  If they are larger framed cattle then start finisher right away at weaning and then get them fat and keep them fat.  We have followed that theory and it has worked well.

Totally depends on the calf.
