Where to stay during the American Royal?

I am booking rooms for Tulsa and Kansas City.  We've been to Tulsa Fair, but this will be our first time at KC.  What are some nearby, decently priced hotels?

There isn't really any good place to stay in KC that's close. The downtown hotels are but they are pricey. We usually stay in Independence it's 15 min away and lots of food in the area. We also have friends that stay just to the north. There's lots of places to stay within 15-20 min in every budget.

I would check the platte city area,,,  Just north of the airport, otherwise Wyandotte county Kansas outside of the 435 loop.....  Kansas City Kansas can have some rouh areas.  As can Jackson county Missouri east of frost and west of the east side of the 435 loop, think southeast quadrant of the area inside the loop.......  And the northwest quadrant inside the loop.  Are the two areas in general I would avoid......    Not speaking from hotel experience, just from living there six years

Thanks.  Has anyone stayed at the Best Western Kansas City Inn on Southwest Blvd?  Is that a safe area?

is the night life area or was.....    Was. A little sketchy, but I have been told has cleaned up a lot......
