Looking to start flushing for the first time. But I am having a hard time deciding which cow to flush, so which of these cows would you flush (if any)  and to what bull? Looking for clubby calves.

I dont go by looks of a cow, but by what she has produced. Take a walk though a ET center and you would shake your head at some of the cows there, but then you see the calves and you would understand why they are there. Not always but sometimes. Start with a proven cow, the best looking cows dont always produce the best calves. Have fun with your new project.

without knowing what she is, i like the shorthorn.
but what bull to use on her in a flush?

walks alone
monopoly
solid gold
heat wave...

flushing to any of these would paint em up good.

I would flush the black cow to a very moderate framed maternal SM bull to make more good cows to have your clubbie calves. There you go we have mated all of your choices up for you. Really if you don't have a strong idea which cow and what direction that you need to go, we sure don't have near enough insight as to what your cows are doing or are capable of doing. 4 nice cows though!!!

I prefer the white cow.  To me she is the most complete.

I'd breed her Eye Candy for clubbies or a Sull bull for shorts.

I hate clubby bulls and most people- HW is fake & overrated said:
personally, I wouldn't flush any of them.. I think flushing is over rated, and way too popular.

I would focus a buying a true stud sire, and mating him to my entire cowherd.
Embryo Transplant is a way to Maximize your best cow/cows .. If you have good enough cattle , and the money to do it , why would you not use Embryo Transplant to get the best calves possible ?  $ 1200 +/- to flush a cow , you can't buy a great herd bull for that price !

I think Frostback hit the nail on the head. We flushed once and only once. The cow we flushed had amazing calves and was a great momma. I have not been able to get a female out of her yet. Our cost were not quiet as cheap as 1200 because I had someone else set her up and house her for me because of my work constraints. So with the cost that we incurred I would be very selective about what cow I thought we had to have genetics on.

I like the red baldy. She looks like she would be a good candidate for alot of the clubby bulls. The more I am seeing Boardwalk calves the more I like him. Softer made type of calves. Monopoly seems to be a home run. Just depends on what you want to put in the tank. Maternal or Terminal

I see more fun in trying to develop a line of females that are consistant, uniform, and productive, and slightly related; but yet some differences....

than I do in owning one "good" cow, and a whole herd of recips...

sorry, that's not my idea of "FUN".

I think I have narrowed it down to either the red brockle or the white cow. Although now I will have to wait till they calve in the spring to decide because both had calves out of herd bulls (the red brockle had a very good heifer from an Apex Cattle herd bull) and I want to see what each can produce being bred to big name clubby bulls (Carpe Diem and Bojo).

Here's another way to look at it. It takes years to "breed Up" from a good female or a group of good females. IF you have an ideal female that produces what you want you can quickly multiply what would have taken years and dollars to build those females ground up. From cash flow perspective I gave in and flushed one cow because I wanted to move faster than I was. You can still work with the offspring of that one or those great females with flushing. Just eliminates a few steps with alot of dollars saved.
