I promised that I would get pictures this year, and I did. Here she is. I took three of her. Registered White Angus. Only known herd in the country.
She was sound asleep when we first got there. Two more pictures to follow.

Wide awake now. She has sky blue eyes, and it looks like black eyeliner around them. Very friendly.

hmmm - registered by who? From the AAA web site
COLOR
An animal red in color or with white skin above the underline or in front of the navel, or on the leg, foot, or tail is not eligible for registration. Steers may have white skin in front of the naval, and must meet all other color requirements.

seems she has disqualifying white above the underline and in front of the navel - in fact she it totally disqualified white

interesting creature none the less - thanks for the pictures  ;)

I see that and imediately picture the ring man at the local auction barn pointing at the eyes and yelling "bad eye" for an instant $.10-.30 discount.

She must be an Albino.  I've seen an old article that is posted in the hall of Lilly Hall at Purdue about a heifer calf years ago

I guess you would have to ask the herd owner about all of that. It said they are registered, that is all I know. I found her very interesting, and like I said, I wouldn't mind having one in my herd at all. She was a deep bodied gal. Unique to say the least.

Not an Albino. They have red/pink eyes, and lack pigment. She has blue eyes, and some black pigment around her eyes.

looks like a homozygous white park to me.  In the Galloway breed, we have whites that have black points.  The more you breed them white on white, the fainter the points become.  Eventually losing the pigmentation, just like the looks of this White Angus.  The White Galloways got the pattern, by using Shorthorn and British Whites.

They're a breed of their own. there is an info sheet hanging on the pen that explains the origination of the breed, "White Angus".

Thanks Cab, I skimmed through the info on them, but of course hubby was in a hurry, so I couldn't read the whole thing. They are a breed of their own.

Do you remember the details? Would you be able to summarize them for us? Is it an official breed?

I skimmed the info sheet, but  a couple of the names that I can remember are Rieson Mortenson who I think founded the breed  and Ben Knutsen who bought part of the herd when Mortenson passed. Part of the herd was again later sold to another gentleman as Knutson retired. The development of the breed came to be like the Red Angus breed. Mortensen had a cow that birthed White calves when mated to a Black Angus bull each time she was bred. I'm sure that it was caused from a genetic deviation. In a nutshell that is how the breed, White Angus has come to be. I tried to search for more info, but had no luck. There were initials in front of Rieson Mortenson's name, but I can't recall what they are. If someone is going to the Iowa State Fair, you may want to look up the White Angus cow in the Avenue Of Breeds. Cab

Beg to differ - the development of the Red Angus breed was purposeful and designed to require the measurement of commercially important traits - (BTW the first US breed to do so) if you google Red Angus the RAAA comes up - if you google white angus your post shows up first and then you get all sorts of weird things Angus White included - I think he is a guy - calling it a breed doesn't make it a breed - this is a white cow - it would be interesting to look at her DNA to see if she really is Angus...
