I am thinking about infusing some shorthorn genetics into my angus herd. Would like to use a white bull. My main goals are replacement females with prettier fronts and better hips than angus. Any reccommendations will be appreciated. Thanks David

How much clubby and birthweight to you want?

Vegas adds both, but there are some very good ones.

We tryed Gus from "stumpy" on this board, looks like nice fronts and not as clubby hipped or birthweight...

I don't know about milk production yet.  What does everyone else like?

Depending on what you are wanting to do I would try either Vegas or Sin City for a clubby look watch out with vegas he is a carrier.  If you are wanting something that still has plenty of show but will make a great heifer I would try TM Gus.  Gus also would have a smaller BW than either Vegas or Sin City.  Good luck a real light roan might give you the blue roan look that I am thinking you are going for.  In that case you might try capiche as you can get sexed semen for 50 bucks both male and female sexed is avalable.  Have fun the angus/ shorthorn cross is one good cross.

I would suggest that TM Gus is your best choice for what you are wanting to do. Gus is one of the most complete bulls on the market today and he is also sound made. His daughters should have good udders and milk as his dam is very sound uddered.

i will have to respectfully disagree that gus has smaller bw than sin city...at least in my experience, with my genetics...sin city calves were alot smaller than the gus'...

Alot of very good-low BW functional cattle-including blues-have come out of Words Casper-on gen horizens or Cattle visions-he is double clean-and proven for years-The Wymore bull of Elbees is also pretty light roan-and you just cant beat the Gizmo look-I would want to use Gus on a very square-double thick one-I just dont think youll get what you are looking for,on a non-extreme cow. Jomans leader plus (eskimo Joes grandsire) has also done it for years-just not sure of his th-pha.Last but not least-are two blue roan bulls-that throw blues and are both clean. They are Bar C Zuess and the one below him-and are on either Catt-Vis-or Gen Horizens-a link shows the calves (all blues out of different cows-in Ca.) Box 6 Ranch on SP-in Colorado has a really nice white  clean SinCity-and I think he throws em too O0 IF it were me-id use Indian Outlaw-luv to see angus-hereford-shorthorn mix.(along with the rest yatta yatta)

//////-Post some pics when u get a chance-hes one of the better all around bulls (and largly unknown) going. He has that touch of Angus-and it really works. Another one unnoticed by most (except this author and Kris Black and Wendall Dunn who owned him,and Darlene Bloomquist in Nebraska ) is JF Perfect Image-supr low BW-really nice thick hiefers-total outcross today-use him on anything O0

David, if are interested in purchasing a white bull with Ohlde breeding top and bottom of the pedigree. I would reccomend Todd Clark's herd in Iowa?? His group of yrlings looked good this spring... his white bull calf's dam is really nice. pm me for his email

However if you are trying AI only - please take a look at Shorthornshop.com line up and Cattlevisions has a long list of SH bulls too. Best of luck to ya. I love the AngusXSH cross !!!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. What kind of milkers do Vegas and Sin City produce? I don't want to have a herd of hard calvers but I do want a clubbier phenotype with a stout hind leg. What about some of the unproven white bulls? Buddy Love, The Bartender etc...

I agree there.  I wouldn't get started with any pha carriers.  Free 4 All is bred right and looks like he would work down here in texas.  I wouldn't rule out using Proud Jazz on your larger cows possibly.  The problem with most of the clubbier shorthorn genetics is they don't give you much maternal use.
