Hoping that maybe I could meet a few Steerplanet members that will be there for the steer show.  We will be there with my daughter who is showing her Angus.  I know that SD is going to be there a few days before the steer show looking at some heifers....maybe he could just miss his flight and hang around for a few more days!! Ha Ha ( BIG HINT ) Sure would love to meet some of you planeteers!!   Lisa

Sawboss...I will find you!!  I know we met up once before in Fort Worth showing heifers, but I can't wait to see how much your sons have grown.  My daughter has an Angus that will fall in the lightweight class.  This will be our first time showing steers at FW....I know we are up for a big challenge.

Yes, that is the steer from Jacob!!  I hope you are right....he really looks good.  I think he looks better now than he ever has.  He did not do well at the Fall Classic, but Jacob explained to me why and it all made sense to me.  He could use a tad more leg hair, but hopefully after the fitters get their hands on him, they will solve that problem!!  Thanks for the encouragement!!

You need to play a recording of the Star Spangled Banner in your barn very loud for your light weight Angus calf over and over.  Two years ago my son had one in that class (first ones to show on Thursday morning).  They bring the calves out, line them up on butt view, and then blare out the song before judging actually starts.  It about freaked his calf out.  They had to stand there 15 minutes before the judging ever got going.

We'll be there.

Now you have me scarred Chambero...this calf is a little on the "weird' side.  I guess I am going to have to go find a recording of that and play it loud in the barn.  Knowing this calf he will give her some problems, if she is not prepared for it. It is hard to calm him down after he has been rattled.  Thanks for the heads up on that, and looking forward to seeing you and your family out there!!

Lisa,
Do you have a current picture of the steer to post?  Love to see how he turned out.  Good luck in FW!

I am going to try and get a good one of him tomorrow.  The weather has been horrible as you know!!  If I get a good one of him tomorrow I will post it!!  I just downloaded the Star Spangled Banner off of I Tunes and I am going to play it to that calf over and over until he can dance to it  ( maybe not dance, just stand still) ha ha!!  Thanks for the wishing of the good luck...I think we are going to need it!

Dont they play that in the barns every morning, at least thats what i remembered. Where are yall gonna be stalled, i'd like to meet yall. I expect to be up there both thursday and friday for the shows. I haven't got anything thats gonna be there, so i think im just gonna hang out and watch the majority of the show.

They probably do, I just never noticied till that year when my son's calf apparently didn't like it very much.  Or maybe he just thought he was supposed to dance to it.  All went well though, we wound up 5th that day and in the sale.

It has happened to us a couple of times with Class 1 Brangus heifers, introduction of judge, pledge to the flag, invocation, and National Anthem.  The kids have trouble maintaining their animal and still show respect to our God and Country.  We will be in Class 1 or 2 and Class 7 or 8 in European Cross depending on the weight breaks this year.  Good Luck to all, I know we will need it!

I look forward to seeing you again, the boys have really grown.  The oldest is 17, 6'3" 220 lbs., the youngest 14, is 5'11" 195 lbs.  It has been two years since we have been there with steers, we finally have the look to our calves that will fit in at a Major Show.  We will see how it goes.

I will be there. We have a few steers entered that we raised, including a pretty nice Angus we hope will be in the lightweight class. We won that class 2 years ago (2009). This steer could actually be better. I would like to meet other exhibitors, also. My cell is 254-688-0840. Mike Christian, Christian Cattle Co.
