This is really the only cow left that I don't have a bull picked out to breed her to and I cant really decide what to breed her too. She needs in my opinion more rib and I think that she needs to be a little thicker and have a bit more muscle. She is also very leggy and so is her Churchill calf that she is nursing right now. I kinda want to breeder her to a Maine bull or a Charolais cross bull to get a shorthorn plus and I am not to familiar with some of these genetics and was hoping some people on here would be able to help.  Also if anyone has any opinions on a shorthorn bull that would work with her I would be very happy to hear what you think as well. Thanks. Also I can get a better picture if you want I took this one with my cellphone today so it may not be very good quality.

felony. I have one kinda like her I'm gonna use him on.  That will give you the Charolais and the maine influence in one package. Jimmy the greek or monopoly if you want to use a black bull.

I wouldnt waste a perfectly good shorthorn calf to get a plus. I guess im just a purest and dont like mixing the bloods. So im gonna say use a shorty bull, and if you really want a plus than by all means dont let me stop you.

For my first pic is would go with WHR RT RF Stone 7116 , I saw this guys a Ft. Worth he is a beast with a really good front end make up, He is is slight above a moderate bull for me so i figure he would take care of that leg on your cow. In cow town it was selling for $20 and I saw many breeders get a piece of this guy on the spot.

WHR RT RF Stone 7116
Sire: HD Bloodstone 603
Dam: HF Augusta Pride RD 326

For my second choice I would go with Tammy Gottschalk's SULL the da vinci code, why you may ask easy pick look at his breeding Solution x Mona Lisa 35L , he is a full brother to Grey Goose who is no longer with us if i am correct so there is a very marketable calf if you choose to go this route.

SULL the da vinci code
Sire: CF Solution
Dam: K-Kim Mona Lisa 35L (Natural Calf)

Thanks for the advice and I have liked the Da Vinci Code bull but haven't seen any calves out of him but I have seen the Greygoose calve and yes Greygoose is deceased I have also liked the Stone bull but wasn't sure if I could get semen out of him. I might give one of them a try. Really the only reason I want a plus calf is because my dad kinda wants me to breed for one and with this cow I could get a blue roan if i used a black bull and if i sold it as a dual registered calf i could probably make a little more money.

Hey I agree with Romax, I didnt think about Ivy League. I'd go for him, he's a new bull, but maybe you can get a calf for the owners to put in next years ad saying raised by: ....., plus that will get you some promotion as a breeder and they get a calf picture to sell semen off of. It's a win win in my book.  <cowboy>

My TH & PHA free suggestions:

Pure Maine = Hard Core
50% Maine = Hairy Bear
CharX = Troubadour
Shorthorn = Ivy Leauge, not proven but looks like he'll work on her.

If you are looking for a plus calf, it sounds like sunseeker is the way to go.  I've heard those calves are easy to market.  If you want a pb, I've got a bull that would most definetely thicken her up,  widen up those feet & bone and let her drop that gut too!  She's got a pretty nice front end and you don't want to lose that, so keep an eye on the front end of the bulls you choose to use on her.  The bull I'm referring to is TF Shooter.  He was listed as an all-american (with gottschalk's bull) and beat him at last year's world beef expo.  He was Champion Shorthorn Bull at Illinois State Fair and supreme/grand overall at several county fairs.  He took home the Reserve Champion Banner at last year's junior Nationals.  These calves are some of the best eaters and excel greatly in rate of gain.  We've got a couple of bulls out of him (one out of an Augusta PridexBonfire cow-he's going to state fair) and an EXCELLENT heifer in this years show string.  Being the youngest in her class, she still blew away the competition at Junior Nationals.  The '09 calves are amazing too.  I can get you pics of his calves if you like.  Most people are using him on cows that they really want thick steer calves out of.  Here's his pedigree and photo (also see profile photo-same bull).

I would love to see some pics of shooter Shooters calves. I did actually get to see Shooter slapped Grand Champion at last years IL State Fair I thought he was a really nice bull. If I go the purebred rout I may actually consider him because he is a bull that I have actually seen in person and know how much natural thickness  and bone that he has. How much is his semen selling for?

Currently, semen is listed for $20/unit.  Although, I think we may be running a special for state fair.  We're taking four head down there, two of which are Shooter calves.  If you're going, feel free to stop by and take a look.  We're stalled in barn 110 (upstairs in the open barn).  We'll have the roan Augusta Pride Bull there as well as the heifer that did so well for me at junior nationals.  I'll see if I can't get those pics loaded and pm'ed to you tonight.
