Wow!

Looks Like a wonderful heifer.

Looks to me like you sold some Wilson semen.  TH/Pha Free as I remember.  Does he breed like Sunseeker or how should he be used?

Birthweights?

Wilson's best claim to fame would be that he is the sire of Sun Seeker 99.9% by DNA test. He is a WMW on a Throttle cow. The dam on the registration is not correct right now but I will be getting it fixed asap. Jay Rhoadhorse raised Wilson and still owes his mother. He & Dean Sanders split a full-sib flush on her last fall & and have 10 full-sibs to Wilson either in recips or in the tank. Fred Campbell has 2 full sibs to Sun Seeker born last spring for sale now and 1 of those bulls did test double clean. Call Fred if interested.
I can't recommend Wilson for use on heifers, but what I have personally been around have seen no calving issues. My 3 calves last year came in approx. 80-85 lbs,(all heifers). IMO if given the chance on a number of cows, Wilson will have a better calf crop than Dr. Who or Hannibal,( sorry Brad), and I like those 2 bulls a lot. He will make flat out great females along with throwing some steers. I used him as the clean up bull for second time around AIing in the summer of 07. Where most PPL would use him would be on carrier genetics, but my 3 cows were clean. The other 2 calves were sold to be shown. We may go clip another one up sometime soon, if we do I'll try to post her up. BTW the heifer pictured is one that my 2 daughters used @ Kirk Stierwalt's clinic in Creston this last weekend. I had to mention it's their 1st clip job, and that I think that they did a great job, spoken like a  proud father.
The dam is a ugly 14 year old, no ears, deep soggy big boned, PB Angus cow that came from Frank's Angus Ranch, Cottonwood Falls, Ks. She doesn't miss although she has began to get later & later calving. We'll probably leave her open after this springs calf and flush her to a few bulls if she's able. Semen is available from any of the owners , Champion Genetics in Texas, Hawkeye, & Don Coover, SEK Genetics. Most of you read Brad Hook's thread about Bounty Hunter and how he was thinking of re-promoting him, Wilson is kinda the same vintage and with Midas being listed as the sire of Sunseeker for so long, Wilson was lost for 3/4 years. out of the 15 or so calves that I personally knew of last year, all but 1 are going into a show ring @ some level this show season. There will be way more next year out of very good cows.  Thanks for all of your kind complements. Sincerely, Brent C.

We have tried to get a good pic of Wilson, but we bought him as a 7 year old bull and he is scurred and in breeding condition, not picture condition. I have been trying to find a pic of him when he was a yearling, but that also so far hasn't been possible. I did talk to Jay this week and Wilson was shown one time as a yearling bull in a SD. show. He won the show, but Jay didn't think that he could put his hands on a picture from that either. Wilson is housed @ Lee Stanley's ranch in Tx. @ Weatherford, Tx. for any of you that are in that area I'm sure that Lee would let you see the bull.
As far as semen goes, I listed how to get it above. PM me with your Ph # and I will call you back to give you the best pricing options please.

Great looking heifer. Looks like they did a super job clipping. I am thinking we might do a stierwalt clinic as a family.

Let me ask you a few questions maybe already previously answered about Wilson.
Would he add bone or muscle on a moderate female?
Is he more female bull or both?
How do the calves grow? larger smaller moderate?

Shawn, the calves will seem to follow the frame of the cows. He breeds more like Dr. Who than Hannibal as far as frame size is concerned. I would say that he will throw better heifers, but I have seen more than one steer win GC around our area. I also know that Lee had some slick sheer calves that were jackpotted in Tx. that did well. He is a red gene carrier and can chrome some up if it is in the dam's background. As far as bone, I think there also that he will follow the cow and may add some if I had to pick one way or another. Structure will be very good in general. The toes will point the right direction. The calves will grow well. Thanks Shawn. Brent

Knabe, I received a copy of the registration papers for Wilson last night. It is interesting to me. The Dam is a line-bred Sugar Ray. Throttle on top of Sugar Ray on top of a Angus cow. That explains to me why he seems to be very consistant on a large variety of cows. We used to use a lot of boars that were line bred to get more consistant pigs. I am going to try to get the registration on Wilson fixed today. Thanks to all for your comments and interest in Wilson. Sincerely, Brent

even being double bred sugar ray, he's still relatively low chi, almost half as much as some of the chi influence bulls attempted in the 80's.  hopefully just enough to add some bone to the angus influence and enough to flatten out the cannon bones and joints.  back in the day, i didn't like sugar ray so much due to the color, and that he wasn't as balanced as ildeno calves, but he was more moderate than ildeno, which is saying something because ildeno was moderate.  i just going to say it, but it always seemed to me, chi's weren't as maternal as people expect today, as they always seemed to throw to the bull. this percentage may work out good.

It's  too early for me to say for sure B/C I don't have any myself yet that are in production. I did see a good set of Wilson heifers @ Kenny Brown last summer that were doing a great job and I maybe wrong , but the calves that I have seen look they should turn into cows. I don't know about milk, but fertility was always real good with the Sugar Ray's. I was surprised that with the double shot of Sugar Ray, that the cattle aren't bigger, but maybe WMW is holding the size in ck., both in maturity and birth. The dispositions of the ones that I have been around have also been good. We could actually get our hands on all 3 of ours B4 we ever put a halter on them, but we spend a large amount of time out in the field and in the lot.

Does anybody have a picture of Wilson, calf or mature?  I really like to see the mature pictures of the bulls.  Seams to give you a little better idea of what the end product is going to turn out like. <cowboy>
