Studying up on Winalot and came across this article on an Irish breeder.
Interesting that Honesty is one of his cow parameters.
Would someone point out to me the common denominator in the bulls he is using...I got the by searching for Winalot images. Even just the head of this bull made me look twice.
Who is Winalot Rodney?
Gene Ireland Bull Breeder of the week – Richard Lee, Kildorrery Road, Mitchelstown, Co.Cork

G€N€ IR€LAND Maternal Bull Breeder Participant, Richard Lee with his ‘Knockagarry’ herd of pedigree beef Shorthorn cattle.

Backround of the herd: The Knockagarry Shorthorn herd got going in 1981 when the first pedigree Shorthorn heifer was purchased from the Ballingarrane Estate, Clonmel, Co.Tipperary.

Maternal Breeding: The herd of over 40 pedigree Beef Shorthorn cows has an overall replacement index of €174 (35% reliable), making it a 5 star herd, even when compared against all other beef pedigree females from all the other breeds.

Top Maternal Cows:  One of the best breeding cows in the herd also has the highest rated female in the herd for the ‘Replacement Index’. Her name is ‘Knockagarry Primrose 63rd (P)’. She is sired by ‘Winalot Rodney’ and is out of a homebred dam called ‘Knockagarry Primrose 45th’ who was sired by ‘Aughnashannagh Lorenzo’. She has a ‘Replacement Index’ of €245 (42%) making her a 5 star cow and actually places her in the top 1% of the Shorthorn breed for this trait. She had her first calf at 22 months old in September 2009, has had a calf every year since and has an average calving interval of 342 days.

Key traits of interest: Docility, Honesty, Fertility. Ability to grade and finish at a young age
.

Recent Sires used: Eionmor Ideal 50p, Alta Cedar Lads Legacy 14p X, Paintearth Rama 53u (p), Ingleton C111, Mohill Jack, Deerpark Leader 4th, Deerpark Leader 8th, Denn Whirlwind, Knockagarry Rodney 711 P (Winalot Rodney Stockbull).

Breeder’s comment: “We have some traditional soft fleshing bloodlines here on the farm.
These are being honestly performance tested with and against, progeny of the best pure polled Shorthorn genetics available worldwide, and some commercial Shorthorn crosses. It is very important that as many Shorthorn Breeders as possible get involved in the Maternal Bull Breeding programme as this is vital in increasing genetic indexes and reliabilities. We must identify the Shorthorn cattle best suited to the requirements of the commercial Irish beef producer on the ground”.

Dreamboat had one of the highest BEPDs in the breed the last time I looked.  None show now since the ASA change on EPD listings the first of the year.  I think it was +9 the last time I saw it.

Thanks. I guess Rodney and I are not on the same page.
It was Paintearth Rama that made me curious about the program. I remember there was Paintrock breeding in the Barmoral Oaks bull we talked about a while back. His picture below... The type I admire ...I thought the fellow in Ireland might be going for that.

Winalot Rodney was by a son of Gafa Captain Macbest 6G and out of a Janell's Marvel 2F daughter. Rodney was used in both Canada and the UK. Rollie Bateman sent embryos over to Scotland by him and here is a photo of one of the resulting offspring, LS Duke. Also the link to the article for the sale he sold in.

Well. I am way over my head and the water keeps getting deeper the father I go into this.
I was innocently looking for information on Meadowbrook Prince 16th and landed on this thread
http://www.steerplanet.com/bb/the-big-show/the-man-who-discovered-dividend_and-the-irish-cattle/105/
Just the thing for a snowy day... And start to see that these Irish cattle I am looking at are related to the bunch Scotland sent to Chapleton.... So it's a big circle.
Is this big circle why Diamond Logical Choice 9L looks so much like the Rodney picture above?
If all this wasn't confusing enough, I thought I would just look around close to the home ground of my own cows and start looking at Homedale Blizzard and wouldn't you know it...

You mentioned Homedale Blizzard.  Does that mean you know.....Frank Kaehler?  Frank is one of the many reasons I like Shorthorns.  The people in this breed are incredible and Frank is one of the incrediblest!  If you don't know Frank, call him.  He'll talk Shorthorns after he gets done telling you jokes, or maybe before!  Lots of history at Homedale Farms.  We almost bought a bull from Kaehlers in the late 60's.  We had it down to a son of TPS Coronet Leader 10th x and a son of Clipper King of USA x.  We ended up buying a son of Boa Kae White Tornado x, Fair Acres Emblem x, from Miles Mann at Woodbine, Iowa.  He did a good job for us, but I always kind of wished we'd have purchased the Leader 10th son.

No, I do not have the pleasure of knowing Mr Kaehler, but I have been living with Homedale genetics for a while. For some reason, I didn't understand they were still breeding until today.
I was trying to figure out who this Eagle bull was, just because I thought he was good looking and went to this site
http://www.topwebsites24-7.com/cgi-bin/blocks/blocks.cgi?cmd=show&cmd2=show&id=1218&blockid=1795&ownerid=165.
Along with a story by JIT about his to trip to Scotland, on the side panel was a picture of Homedale Kodak so I had to take a look and was very amazed to see the breeding lines up with mine... Then looked at Blizzard and it seems to be that all roads lead to Gafa Mohican, if you just keep traveling long enough

But I saved a picture and can't remember who put is. The third one..Deerpark related?

It was Diamond Captain Mark that got me into this maze. Him and his nice Winalot daughters

Speaking of Gafa Mohican, here is a picture of Eionmor Ultra 8C, just because he is unpretentious about his quality

Sorry, I didn't identify it better. That is SMS American Eagle x, who I can't even find in ASA.
"One of the senior herd sires at McElhaney Stock Farm, Hookstown, Pa is SMS American Eagle x, by RB Eagle 215th x out of a daughter of Cedar Curve Michaelangelo *x. Some of his calves to be featured in the Preferred Stock X sale can be seen at http://www.prefstock.com"

All the females I favored Diamond were put of him.
Really I was looking for bulls that resembled Canadian Image.

The first bull I used to ai my PB shorthorns to was Winalot Kannon from Rolly . Was a pic of the bull on Alta beef sires under the shorthorn sires. He was a roan, good for heifers with some performance at that time.

He was a pretty impressive bull and left some good offspring.

Kannon was also available to Brazil, unfortunatelly the shipment costs made it impossible.
Mochican son, Gus 80C, made a great job in Brazil. Specially when used on Tribune, Enticer, Yates daughters.
Heard that Gus was part Maine at one side,a s well as Winalot Big Mac. Maybe this was the (+) point on the mating.

I don't think that is true! I'd be curious to know who is spreading that rumour.
