Would Texas ever open their major shows to out of staters?

I've always wondered this.

As a non-Texan, I would love to see Fort Worth, especially, open up to all states. This would truly be a sight to see.

Texans, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. I've been to Fort Worth and it is without a doubt the greatest steer show in the world in terms of depth, atmosphere, numbers, prestige and just in how it is ran.

In terms of top end quality, Denver is not far from from it. Yes, the numbers are significantly less but there is no junk at NWSS.

No.  The fund raising behind these shows is to support Texas kids. And if we grow the program much more, the facilities won't hold them all.  FW really doesnt now.

How many cattle are shown right now?

Our spring majors all have right around 2,000 head of steers show up.

And this is with the Majors only allowing 1 steer per exhibitor. Jr. Heifer show numbers are also pretty similar, and they only allow 1 heifer per exhibitor also.

I know our smaller events and even our local fairs have struggled a bit with #s.  Showing cattle on a competitive level isn't cheap and economy has put a crimp on the disposable income.  I don't think anyone would argue me that showing cattle isn't a money making venture unless you are a breeder that sold a high end calf.

Right now with the market price being so high a lot of these calves will make more money at market than risk having high bw and cripples to get the next great one.

I would have to agree the answer is no, the logistics just wouldn't allow it. Most facilities that host the majors are at max capacity already. Heck, it takes five days to get these shows completed already.

What in the cornbread does this have to do with the topic?

I don't see it happening if the shows are maxed out for space as it is.

We wouldn't take one even if we could.  My general rule of thumb...we aren't leaving the state for a show unless we have a chance to win.  We get all the humility we can stand right here at home!

I am going to make the trip down to FW to watch.  I can't help myself...I just have to experience it.

No states that I know of allow junior cattle from another state show in their state fairs / major shows so why should Texas?

Denver, Kansas City, and Louisville allow out of state juniors to show. Now I agree no other State fairs allow out of state juniors.

And I consider Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Houston as state fairs just because as a state we have more shows besides our state fair doesn't mean we need to open entries.

Boy, it'd sure be fun if Fort Worth opened up. You bet that all the big boys from up north would come down for it.

Also, it'd be nice if Denver wasn't terminal. This would attract more haired cattle from Texas who otherwise stay home for Fort Worth. And if Fort Worth was opened up, then the northerners could take whatever didn't make sale to Cowtown <rock>. It'd be beneficial for both shows, but seeing how Fort Worth is already at capacity I guess it's just a pipe dream....
