I do listen to KISS FM quite a bit, and I have heard them doing the contest.  Congrat's on the win!  I must have missed you on the radio, but I am sure it had to be hilarious!  KISS is a very "City" radio station, so I am sure they were having a blast with the fact an Iowan farmer won.

HOT 96 (the local pop station) just did somethin similar, but instead of cash, they were givin away Daughtry tickets.

This is one hilarious story. Yes, KISS FM is our legendary radio station which is part of Clear Channel. I'll try to get someone who knows how to go into their archives. That would be awesome to get a recording of this. Road Warrior, maybe KISS's DJ, Kid Kraddick (who is very popular in this neck of the woods) would invite you to Dallas for some additional dollars. This just might be a great opportunity to having your15 minutes of fame.  (clapping)

Wow i can't believe that the ballons came from texas to SE iowa in just 24 hours. If it was my luck the cows would have got out. You are one lucky fool. I live in SE iowa to but i guess i was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, just like always.

We didn't get that lucky.  Ours were HOT AIR baloons from a local race that chased our cows through fences two days in a row.  Apparently it was too hot that July weekend for the Baloons to get enough lift they were burning  trying to get lift and it freaked the cows out.  First day on a pasture North of town and the second day a pasture South of town.

Didn't get a prize out of that one.  Your balloons were definately a "cash cow"  I agree buy some lottery tickets. (clapping)

  I'm surprised a radio station would pull a stunt like that these days though, I'm sure there are some "Greenies" somewhere that would be on about how the balloons would likely end up polluting the environment, or the "endagered great spotted, two horned, three legged Owl" would be trapped in it's nest and choke and die because of them.

  I vaguely rememeber years ago fnding a set of balloons with my sister in a pasture, there was a note attached that we should write a letter (this is before the days of the internet and nobody had a cell phone) ro the kid who let the ballons go and vaguely getting some random letters back from said kid who lived hours away.

  Very cool story!

I hope you choose to do something "fun" with the money, or atleast something that you wouldn't have done otherwise instead of just paying bills with it like I would likely do.
