What will today bring?

Well, we have 3 calves on the ground. 1 MoneyMan bull, a Gigolo Joe heifer, and a Gigolo Joe bull. Wow we are excited with what we have so far. Our Joe heifer is an orange baldy and will be a force to rekon with in the maintainer division. Our MM bull is a full sib to our bull Mucho Dinero and he is just as good if not better than his big brother! Our Joe bull is pretty painted up. Has a star on head that looks like Ohio so we named him Cleveland. My husband says he looks like a holstein, but I love the little guy!

Good news today…Ron Terkstra called (he bought Mucho Dinero) semen has been frozen up at Hawkeye on him. Were pretty excited to try Mucho. We have reserved the right to 100 straws of semen on him and plan on using him some this year. If your interested in some let me know. He’s at Hawkeye until Monday afternoon if you’d like to check him out.

Weather has been good here. Mud is finally drying out. Thank goodness….and no, my simmi x angus cow hasn’t calved to Mama’s boy yet! She looks miserable, hopefully she goes soon.

Happy calving everyone! Its just starting here. My son has his last mini-wrestling meet this weekend at Bedford, IA. Big tourney so I hope he does well and controls his little temper (must get it from his dad lol). With winter sports winding down, we’ll be hitting the show road soon. Hope to see you all there!

its not Monday it its “Mud-day”

What a day…Mud everywhere. We were hit hard this weekend with over 2″ of rain. If that’s not bad enough we had 6″ of snow that melted before that. Not fun!

We decided not to go to our show over the weekend. I had a dr. appointment on Thursday and she advised us not to go. I’ve had a rough time since The American Royal health wise and we finally know the cause…I caught the Epstein barr virus. I didn’t have mono, but I have a bad case of this virus. Lots of fatigue, muscle aches, and sore joints. Glad we didn’t go…I feel better and am rested, plus not sure if we would have gotten the trailer back down the road!

Only the one calf so far! Its muddy so I’m sure my Mama’s boy calf is going to come soon!

Stay dry and don’t loose your boots!

my first blog post

OK…my peers in the cattle world and the embroidery world said I should do this so here I am!  I’m a 30-something mother of 2 (Danielle age 11 and Evan age 6), live in NW MO, raise Maine-Anjou Cattle, own Funky Stitches custom embroidery, and am “mom’s taxi” to wrestling, basketball, boyscouts, 4-H you name it!

I plan to share my adventures in the cattle business and share some of my embroidery stuff ect.  Heck you may find Funky Stitches “specials” on here that are not availible anywhere else.

Today, I’ve been working on 2 ranches designs.  Rafter Bar B and Circle W beef.  They turned out really neat…simple but effective.  Rafter Bar B’s is there brand so its neat.

This afternoon I have to get after my daughters show heifers.  We are planning on going to Kirksville Saturday with 2.  She has a Hotline x Blackstone we got from Nelsons named Princess and a neat Total Package heifer named Jocelyn.  Looks like little brother will be showing Jocelyn for her.

We have one calf on the ground so far.  Its a full sib to our Mucho Dinero bull that was reserve at the Iowa beef expo.  Really love my Majors Money Man calves.  This little guy is thicker and has more bone than his big brother.  Of course we wanted a heifer for Danielle to show but you know how that goes.  We also have a neat moderate framed Simmi x angus due anytime to Mama’s Boy.  Really excited about this one.  She looks miserable poor old girl…cross your fingers for a heifer!

Tune in for more of my antics.  Calving season with me is a hoot!  Last year I lost more boots and socks in the mud than I ever care to admit!

Take care and happy calving!
