despite the 90+ temps and a barn that was hotter than…well…HOT….we had lots of fun @ the wv interstate fair and expo, aka the wood co. fair…the calves settled right in, and by day two they were old pro’s…we ended up with champion shorthorn plus (legend calf) and champion commercial (gigolo joe calf) bulls and a division winner with one of our shorthorn heifers (gus calf), and a 2nd in class (jazz heifer)…linds loved all the ribbons! 

i believe the judge was quite “impressed” with the sparkles on lindsay’s heifer and mentioned that she never saw a pink halter on a bull before…oh, the things we do for our little girls!!!  linds would just say…”mommy, real bulls can wear pink!”…and so he did…

well…the calves are weaned and now its breakin’ time…but this weather is almost unbearable…8pm and its still 90 degrees makes it hard to work the calves much…but they have been coming along pretty easily…all that hard work the first month of their life is really paying off now…here’s a sneak peak…

around the barn he’s known as “skunky boy”, as linds affectionately calls him…but on paper he’s officially “cowboy’s legend”…reg. shorthorn plus…1/2 clean up bull by occ legend x 1/2 shorthorn (gizmo)…78 lb bw…feb. 2010…

so for about that past 2 weeks we have been in the 90’s (real feels 95-105)…terribly hot and humid…but some cool, much needed showers this afternoon have hopefully broke the heatwave and we can get back to some normal temps…took a few pics while checking on the cows this evening…they finally seem to be “cooled” off a little…

i was wanting something “special” for my little girl to carry around all of her “stuff” when we go to the cattle shows….bethany @ purple banner designs has done it again!!! she turned my thoughts and ideas into the real deal!!! thanks bethany!!!

and then we needed a garmet bag to put her “show ring” clothes in….;)

i was in the feed room mixing up some feed, when all of the sudden i hear singing…this is the exact reason why i never leave the house without my camera…all a girl needs is an old showbox to stand on, a few calves as an audience, and a radio playin’ her favorite song…

the rains came…and the grass grew…and grew…and grew…so we opened the gates and kicked the cows up the hill…

lindsay and i had to do the chores by ourselves this evening…of course it took a little longer than usual…have to get play time in with the calves!…just two more weeks til weaning time, and the real fun begins!  we cant wait to start “working” with this group of calves!
