Jason is being awful nice lending the SP name to this idea for free.  ;)

What should be done is a "template" be created, which actually is being hammered out in this thread, and Jason then license (for a fee ) it to a regional sale manager. Or he could just start his own SP sale management business and go around the country making money of our cattle! :D

Just a thought! 8) 8)

Color me skeptical on the deal. You are still going to end up with costs and unhappy people and whatnot. You will have a neat identity"steer planet" sale though. I hope it works. :)

;D, ha, not in sale management business, but that does bring up an interesting point about maybe getting someone to help organize.

I can help with hosting photos, advertising, possibly webcasting the sale, lending the name for the sale, etc.

But, the business side and actual transactions, some will need to take responsibility and be in charge of the whole operation.  There is quite a bit of liability out there, so it might be smart to have some protection on any unfortunate event that could occur.

I will keep the new forum up to bounce ideas.

Another way to sort the cattle would be to invite one or more collegiate judging teams to look over the cattle.  Our daughter is on a team, and they are always traveling to different sales to use the cattle for judging.

I like this idea as far as getting a neutral group of neutral PPL to take a look. Brent

We could easily do it at our place. We uesd to have our production sales and handled 70 head pretty easy. We have the ground and the facility to handle it. We are just outside of St. Louis.

Okay I just read this for the first time sounds like a good idea.  Would members from Canada be welcome to put cattle up too?

I don't see why not, as long as you could get em here.

I like the regional idea the best. Northern Illinois[Illinois is big] Wisconsin Eastern Iowa and Southern Minnesota and canadian friends of course. I think the Michigan, Indiana,Ohio, and eastern Pennsylvania would work. Whatever you do,if some one tries this,YOU must upset some folks and have sifting rules. You have to be liable for your own calves and responsibilities. Advertise the hell out of them, keep them small if possible. Every member witin a region should have the opportunity to consign, with limitations.I think maybe we should coincide the first sale of that region with someone who already has a sale or facilities at the time of year you are planning and offer them an incentive if possible to join Steerplanet by advertising his sale for free or whatever. Personally I would like this better if it was and old fashion Auction. This is just food for thought for this forum.

We are in Michigan and are looking for ways to market our calves.  For sure heifers.  We would be willing to go were needed (within reason) to make this happen.  Think it is a great idea.

If anyone from the more northern tier of the midwest would be interested and think that this would be an option for you, depending on  month and day, I would be easily able to accomodate up to 20 head at my farm.  They could be penned in front of this cool showbarn and some, if anyone wanted, could be penned inside or outside in the pictured pens.  I'm in Michigan, 20 miles east of Michigan State University.  I'd have no calves entered so could be pretty good help for y'all!
That is very possibly the most awesome showbarn i have ever seen!!! Sweet! O0 (clapping) O0

Just reading all the ideas and locations of interest; I think the two central locations would be great. I am from Michigan and would be very interested in offering two or three prospective Show/Breeding entries (Calves). September is a better month to get the April/May calves some condition. Also, let's not get too carried away with wanting this sale to be to high end, otherwise you are going to limit your market and then all the fun in having this first annual sale will just be for not! You are building this new site and have all walks of cattle people that have an interest here, lets not make this a too expensive of a sale.
Good Quality of calves will be offered and in time , Quality will take care of it's self.  Dori's place sounds excellent and is located where Ohio/Ind/Ill/Iowa/Mi /Wis  could participate. If wanted, you could move the sale location to another place among  these states in this region.
Also, the entries shouldn't have to be there any sooner than two or three days prior; just as though you were going to a show.
This location has lots of motels and eating facilities between Dori's place and Michigan State.
I HOPE THIS COULD BE A GO FOR THIS  YEAR. ALREADY CHECKING OUT  MY CALVES AND SELECTING THE PROSPECTS!

Let's not make this too difficult the first time, we can make this happen!  Thanks for everybody's input.
Let's not make this too difficult, GOOD LUCK,
