This year me and brother are show steers. Neither of use have ever show a steer or have any experience. Are steers were born in April 2015 and pulled them straight out of the flied, so they have had very little contact with people. The last 2 weeks we have been putting them in a small space and trying to scratch them, its not making any difference. We need suggestions and when we asked are advisor she just wished us good luck! If you have any advice please help!!! We have no clue what we are doing!

Our 4-h club puts them in their stalls and our leader goes in and puts a halter on them and lets them walk around with it on all the time. This way when they step on it they want to get of it and then they learn how to release the pressure. These steers then will want to walk with you because they don't want to feel the pressure. One girl is now pretty mush ready for show and just started hers at the beginning of January. I hope this helps !  <rock>

We rope ours tie them to a sturdy fence then put the halter on carefully (they will probably jump). Then we leave them tied to the fence for a couple hours. Approach them a couple times and try to pet or brush them periodically (be careful, they may jump or kick). After a few hours try to lead them to water, They will be butts the first couple times, but keep at it. I have also heard of just letting them drag the halter.
