The Big Show / Favorite breed? And why
« on: March 26, 2017, 02:11:15 PM »
Hi all so we have been breeding replacement heifers for a few years now. And I thought I would ask all of you what your favorite breed is and why. Right now we are running a few different breeds. I have a few straight angus a few straight simmental. Some sim X angus and some angus X Hereford. They all have there pros and cons what's your favorite

The Big Show / Re: New to Selling Bulls
« on: March 26, 2017, 01:30:49 PM »
I agree with all the other posts above that you need to get established. I have not sold any bulls but I do sell a lot of replacement heifers and the first few years were kinda rough like said above. But now I have people calling all year long some repeat customers and a lot of word of mouth. I do not have the best heifers in the county by far but I keep every record possible im honest with all numbers I run every test I can on my heifers and usually keep them until they are ready to breed because here in Colorado people would rather not feed anything thru the winter they don't have too. But I will tell you that when I look for bulls I want to see all records possible I like to see there cow herd I like for them to be seman tested tric and pap already done. The more info the better any way just my 2 cents

Well I made up my mind last night. Went out to bring her in and milk her and all but one quarter was sucked down. So gave her one more day and she is all sucked down this morning. Thanks all for your help

The Big Show / Calf not nursing back quarters
« on: March 22, 2017, 03:25:16 PM »
Hi all we had a calf Monday and he seems to be doing good. Cow is always full of milk but I don't think he has touched the back teats she is super tight. Should I try milking her out in the back or just let nature take it course? Thanks

So we just bought a 8 month old bull calf. Going to take a gamble on him testing out in the spring. I have never bought a young bull. So my question is what is the best feed and grain for him. Thanks

The Big Show / Corral ideas ?
« on: August 02, 2015, 02:55:55 PM »
Hi everyone. We just bought a new place and starting to get ideas for our pens and corrals. I know pipe fences are probably the best bet. But pipe is high and hard to come by around here and I'm not that great of welder Haha. So what does everybody think of old school wood corrals or any other ideas. Also we are on somewhat of a budget. All of our cows are pretty gentle but we still want something well built. Thanks

The Big Show / Re: Trailer tires

If you run heavy and fast in hot weather I would go 14 ply. I have had trouble with 10 in the past but never any with 14.

The Big Show / Re: Trailer brake controller
« on: August 02, 2015, 02:39:48 PM »
Max brake is the best imo but they are expensive. It all depends on how heavy what kind of roads and how often you use it. But the ones you get at tractor supply or Walmart will work just not as smooth and take more adjusting

The Big Show / Re: Hauling a bred cow
« on: June 18, 2015, 11:30:17 AM »
I would say she will be just fine.  I have hauled cows deeper bred than that and never had any problems I would rather not haul them but it always seem to work where we have to.

The Big Show / Re: Stock trailer floor

That's kinda what I thought I will go talk to our local lumber yard and see what they can order. I will also look into the plastic boards

The Big Show / Stock trailer floor
« on: June 09, 2015, 08:26:44 PM »
So I need to replace the floor in my stock trailer. What is the best wood to use. There is no sawmills close to me so I am kinda limited. Would just 2x10's work from homedepo.  I know a lot of people use oak or pine but I'm having a hard time finding it
