The Big Show / Yes I'm Still Alive n I got a question 4 U..
« on: September 30, 2013, 10:28:30 AM »
This question goes out to all the CW Online sale viewers....

Do u watch the videos in the small box that's there when u click on the picture or do u watch on the full screen version?..

The reason I ask is that most videos r formatted for a youtube size player and when u go full screen it distorts...and I don't like that personally...

They can be uploaded in a bigger format but that slows everything down...

Just curious as to how many watch sale videos FULL SCREEN?

Thanks in advance.... Hook.

The Big Show / Re: Is Photoshopping Ethical
« on: May 15, 2012, 09:46:54 AM »
There's not a lot of difference between Photoshop and a set of Craftsman tools.

A set of Craftsman tools can be used to break into a house or car and steal something......OR.......they can be used to fix a house or car, as was intended.  The elephant in the room on this issue is SIMPLY the MORALS of the person using the tool.

When I first started promoting bulls and it came picturing time, we would take about three rolls of film per animal......drive to Des Moines to One Hour Photo for developing......frantically look through 5 billion pictures......throw them ALL away......and start the whole process over again.  My how times have changed.

MY rule of thumb with "Photoshopping" is that if it could have been done with a blower, scotch comb or clippers.....then I don't have a problem with it.  Or, if there's some  post or ugly something non-related to the calf that needs taken out....then so be it.

What I do not appreciate is "basketball asses" being built on baby calves.....necks being shrunk and stretched......and any and all other actions that I believe represent FRAUD,  which apparently some folks with LAW DEGREES do too.

An Attorney spoke with me face to face a while back about these very issues.  Nothing of my doing, but simply asking if I knew of any lawsuits from misrepresenting cattle being sold with fraudulent (highly Photoshopped) pictures.  I told him I did not, but would assume there probably has been......and if there hasn't, there probably soon will be.  He grinned.

I work and walk my rear off to get the best picture of the animal in front of me that I can get.  That's what I'm getting paid to do.  In NO WAY, SHAPE or FORM, am I going to put MY CLIENTS reputation at stake. Do you know how fast word spreads in a sale circuit when people drive hours to look at one particular calf due to a "GREAT" picture, only to find out it is JUNK.  Trust me, it spreads like wild fire and can RUIN your sale.  Not to mention if the wrong person buys this calf off of that picture, gets it home and sees that it is junk, then the potential problems for the owner, photographer, on-line sales company and ANYONE else involved could be bad.

Here's the deal about the video age we live in now.  I've had this conversation with MANY of my high profile cattle trading friends.  People who have been raised around cattle KNOW CATTLE.  They like to be able to stand in front of them and evaluate them......BUT......many people buying on-line are novice, and couldn't figure any more out about that calf they're wanting standing in real life looking at it, than sitting in the comfort of their own home on their phone or laptop analyzing the video.  That's why that video is SO MUCH MORE important than the picture when having an online sale.  Yes, you must have a good picture......but the picture MUST match the video! MANY do NOT.

I like, work with, and try to get along with everyone in this industry.  But we must realize it is an INDUSTRY, and for the most part WE are the regulators!  That's a GREAT article by BJ Eick, a good friend of mine.  Please read it if you haven't.   Here's an idea.  If sometime you are wanting to purchase a calf off of a picture or online sale, call the photographer and videographer that took the picture and/or video and ask them directly about any suspicions or questions you may have.  I'm always more than happy to answer questions and give my opinion (if I can remember). You'll be able to get a pretty good feel about the calf you're wanting to buy from the tone of the person you are talking to.

The Big Show / Power 2 Change Progeny Update.

Wanted to show you a P2C heifer that is the exact example of what I thought that bull could do someday, and is a result a natural breeding on a first calf Heat Seeker/Sm granddaughter.  Fellow Planeteer JBR raised her and she is nice.  There's a couple other baldies in that region that look good too.  Just never got much semen moved on him to figure out where he was going to work for sure.

Remember a couple years ago when I done a quick lil youtube video for Ashley Druckenmiller's family for some game show contest? Many of you may have even emailed them.

Well, nothing ever came out of the game show......but something did come out of the gesture of kindness.

Ashley went to work for a healthcare company that deals only with hemopheliac people, and when they needed a promotional video made......guess WHO got the call.

I thought I'd share the video with you now that it's been approved.  If you have children.....OR even if you don't have children, you need to watch this.

The Big Show / Re: Hair Wizard

When I was filming at Herf Jr Nat'ls I got a text from the Sullivan Supply trailer to get over there if I could.  I was in the ring and when I rounded the corner there was a LONG line of people.  Mark Sneed, whose booth was right there on the corner, said he bet at one time there was close to 300 people in line.

I had NO idea what was going on, but I started filming anyway.   Come to find out, they had told everyone that they would start selling the new HAIR WIZARD at five o'clock, and that's what the line was for.  It was pretty AMAZING.  I'm building a video on it right now for Sullivan Supply and will let you know when it's up.

It's gonna have to be HANDLED differently than MOST combs, because of the wire teeth, but MAN does it pull up hair you didn't know your calf even had!

Got your pic of the bull.  U video yet?

I was thoroughly impressed with the people of the Am. Hereford Association this past week.  Just as this quote that I posted on my blog this morning says, I'd say it has held true for them.

"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." -John Quincy Adams

Here's the Exec. Vice President Craig Huffhines....

Here's the Grand FINALLY of the show.  WOW, what a set of heifers!  Congrats ALL.

The bulls, cow/calf pairs, prospect and progress steer videos are also up on the Association Channel at www.youtube.com/herefordvideos    Grand Owned Polled Heifer will be finished tonight also.  Thanks.

I'm REALLY PLEASED with the way this show vid turned out.  Got a nice text from John Sullivan saying...."Hook, that was TV QUALITY! ! ! !"

That'll make you feel good EVERYTIME! lol

« on: July 15, 2011, 01:58:11 PM »
I REALLY like the way this one turned out.  What a phenomenal bunch of showmen.  Judge had a heck of a speech.  Hope you ENJOY.

Jason.....I'm STILL have trouble getting the player to embed on here......call me when you have time and tell me what I'm doing wrong.

I filmed ALL the Showmanships yesterday, but have only had time to finish editing the Pee Wee's so far.  BOBBY did a FANTASTIC job with the little showmen!  I'm headed back to film some Bred and Owned cattle showing today.  Will keep you posted.  Thanks for viewing and hope you enjoy.  Remember this is ALL made possible by SURE CHAMP - VitaFerm.

The Big Show / Filmin' @ the Hereford Jr. Nat'ls.......
« on: July 13, 2011, 12:47:46 AM »
Hey Guys,

The Am. Hereford Assoc. hired me to do a series of videos at their Jr. Nat'ls, and I just wanted to let you know that I'd try and post them as completed on here for you.  I was told going into this event that it might be the BEST Jr. Nat'ls of them all, and I guess I couldn't argue with that.  There are cattle absolutely EVERYWHERE......and really good.

I just got in town tonight about 4:30 and stopped out by Kemper to check in.   I grabbed my still camera and shot a while, to try and capture ALL the states here, and threw them together in this little montage.

VitaFerm is a BIG sponsor of this event, and are really one of the FRONT RUNNERS in internet video promotion, so if you'd do your 'ole buddy BRAD a favor and check out the vids....  I'd GREATLY APPRECIATE it.

I'm gonna try and embed the vids on here, but if I don't get it figured out, go to www.youtube.com/herefordvideos and check them out.  THANKS A BUNCH......I owe you again.

The Big Show / Re: STOCK SHOW U Videos Now Up.....
« on: June 30, 2011, 09:40:09 PM »

Thanks for putting the vids on your front page and for the kind words.  I'm relatively sure most know that we have a friendly working relationship, and that I'm ALWAYS there for the PLANET!

Let me explain why I always put my links instead of embedding the videos........It's because I NEVER HAVE figured out how to just embed the video!  (lol)   I know how to add pictures, just NOT video.

I do appreciate the web traffic, but as you said, that shows up whether they're embedded or linked.  I know it's got to be simple....but would you please explain how to embed video on a post for me.

Thanks, Hook.

p.s.......I'm also REALLY FIRED UP to be filming for the Am. Hereford Association at their Jr. Nationals.  I'll be there four days, producing 6 or 7 videos for them.  Should be FUN!

The Big Show / STOCK SHOW U Videos Now Up.....
« on: June 29, 2011, 02:12:41 PM »
I recently filmed the STOCK SHOW U Grad School held in Dunlap a couple weeks ago and produced a couple videos on those activities.

I think you'll get a kick out of them.  They'll be on my youtube channel at www.youtube.com/jbradleyhook or blog at www.bradhookbs.com and eventually on the Sullivan Supply website.

Let me know what you think. I've got about 30 editing hours in the two vids....NOT counting filming for two days.  I HOPE you like.  (lol)
