I agree for the commercial man shape of calf is important ,but for the purebred guy it isn't that simple, not a very big cow can have a 100 lb. well shaped calf , but how many 100 ib. bulls do you think you will sell , an if you do it will be on the very lowest on your price scale ...some PEOPLE in the CHAROLAIS commercial end just beg you to raise 100 lb. + bull calves and will buy them as cheap as he can because of it...!!

I DIDN'T READ all 8 pages of this subject and maybe someone has touched on this  already ,but in the summer month's (JUNE JULY & AUGUST ) their is a lot of black finished cattle in these months that die , I haven't went out an surveyed but talking to people feeding them make hauling dead black's out a daily routine especially when high heat, humidity an no air movement ...Maybe feeding those blacks they make that much more than CHAROLAIS X , RED ANGUS an X ,AND OTHER CATTLE NOT BEING BLACK...BRAHMA cattle don't work up here usually... One  test a vet told me about is black finished or close to will have 15 degrees more heat , than CHAROLAIS an X CATTLE, HEREFORDS RED ANGUS,RED  GELVIEH ,HAVE A 7 DEGREE ADVANTAGE ...many feed lots you can drive by sure show this ,saw a lot this summer with red white face & black's mixed and the black's were fighting to get under shades put up , a  couple blacks were very sick on outside of shade, red white face over by the water tank laying down chewing their cud's ....These feedlot's must make a lot of money on the live one's , cause one was up around 700 loss & 8 another color besides black...A friend lost some an didn't question him on number ,but he called dead truck at 8 in morning an was informed their was already 1000 ahead of him ....REASON I had been watching this an old cattle buyer use to buy cattle for big feed yard for summer months and stopped death loss and said in a couple of year's doing this he could have gotten along with 2 less men in that period ..!!Some vet's have told me a lot of these big black cattle are having breed back problem's and noticed these RED ANGUS are getting a premium for females ..  A vet today that raises RED ANGUS  told me that crossing them with moderate made CHAROLAIS  are working very well as feeder's and also as replacement females ..!!   A few year's ago I also know in a big feedlot area their was 5000-to 6000 lost due to heat an being black...  I'm a little operator an I couldn't imagine losing this many ..!!

WE HAVE HAD a donkey 45 years, the first one was a wedding present and has been a good experience all those year's...Some of these report's must have been bad donkey's ,we try to not give them any more rope than 2 ft. from donkey.. I have sold numerous donkey's to customer's and as far as I know no problem's ...MANY PEOPLE USE THEM TO BREAK COLTS ..!!   YOUR chiropractor probably is not
very FOND OF THEM...  As far as hurting calves think they do a very humane job , some of these club calves could have sure used one ..!!

The Big Show / Re: Calving ease Char bull
« on: August 13, 2016, 12:20:00 PM »
I'M NOT VERY HAPPY right now ..printed a detailed summary of things to look for in heifer bulls and must have took to long ,was logged out..!!   So not going to spend that much TIME, might be lot more blunt with what I have observed over the year's ..Been connected with Charolais almost 60 years' and in that time the breeder's are finally showing some interest in birth weight and calving ease ,not just growth ..SHOW BULLS and FRENCH bulls have caused the most damage for calving ease bulls in our breed.. When younger always tried new bulls and 98% of the time disappointed ,especially with 2 groups mentioned.. Forgot 1, CANADIAN'S wanted big birth to have big growth, noticed a big improvement here lately...   For improving calving ease look for bulls with minus numbers in BW , NOT SURE CE does any good...  KNOW YOUR PEDIGREE'S and history of those bulls in a pedigree, they will help steer you in right direction and stay away from first and second year bulls with no proof ..!!

Bulls mentioned above , YELLOWSTONE --not enough proof..!! I'M A HUCKLEBERRY -NOT ENOUGH PROOF..!!   LT LEDGER 0332-
USED him last 4 years on some heifers and cow's through AI ,GOT TO pick EPD'S and watch PEDIGREE AND PRODUCTION , got along fine .. but heard of some larger BW in other cow herd's ..

WE have commercial customers using sons of our proven herd sires on mostly black comm. females for 4 year's and no more problem's with heifers than when using black bulls ...ADDS dollars to their pay check in the fall..!!
