we have been dealing with this problem for about 4 years we treat two different ways  on cows that are just showing signs we mix in a squirt bottle 1/2 la-200 (oxytetracycline 200mg) 1/2 alcohol 70%    scrub the heal clean the spray mix on for 3-4 days         with cows with it worse we clean hoof with water and a scrub brush then clean wound with alcohol the take oxytetracycline powder and apply to heal  place gauze and wrap with vet rap keep on for 4-5 days  remove then treat with squirt bottle mix for 2-3 days hope it works for you

i my self have been down that road that you are on now. i showed cows all through high school and wouldn't have traded it for anything in the world.  the starting of a farm was not easy. but if it was everybody would do it  i had the support of my parents but only through encouragements. i have walked into many loan offices and before they even knew my name they told me i was wasting my time. i didn't give up i got a job at a local feed store to help pay for my first 2 cows they were ugly as sin but i didn't care it was a starting point well i moved from there buying my first good looking cows and it was on from there i finally got my first cattle loan over a year ago for 11 Sim Angus cows  and as a birthday present i got the opportunity to go to AI school  now i lease around 400 acres for cows and hay and we are up to 20 brood cows all hope to have healthy caves the fall.  i have a good breeding program which consists of  fat and healthy cattle  hope to have some good show calves for next season as well.  and if you ever need any help feel free to pm me and i can try my best to help hope everything goes well and don't  ever give up    <beer>

The Big Show / how do you breed your cattle?
« on: August 02, 2010, 09:32:01 PM »
a couple of friends and i were sitting around talking about  what bulls were thinking about breeding our club calf herd to most of my buddies share the same idea the pick 2 to 3 bulls and use them to breed the whole herd including heifers. they joke about my ideas i use about 11 to 12 bulls and play "mad scientist " as they call it  i like to take every cow and break them down to  try to figure out what i want to see out of that cow. i was interested as to what everyone does with your herd. do you keep it simple or play "mad scientist"
