he did not mark up the calf. his job is to find the calves, prep them for show. he is credited with locating and placing the calf. he is on their payroll

The biggest problem the online sales have is that it provides an illiusion that these cattle actually hold more value. young people see opportunity, decide to start a small herd and raise show prospects, then find out it is very difficult to market and actually sell the animal. we have personally been down this road. we watch what better heifer, steer, and bred females bring and try to price ours accordingly. We do not try to get stupid money out of them, just what the market deems as "fair." we tried to sell a solid female this summer for a friend. she was good, just needed time. priced her to some families that wanted to be competitive, put a $3500 price on her, no bites. a trader ended up coming in, gave the asking price, and she was 3rd overall at our winter beef show. I do not think the money is there like everyone thinks. people brag about $5000 breds, we cant even get $2800

Agree with AAOK on FR Magic. Midas is another bull that works. also agree on the caeser reference, Ante Up, GVC Suh, X or X2, GVC Special Delivery also all make fantastic cows. some people may disagree with this, but I personally love the Witch Doctor females. Whiskey genetics work as well. have had luck with Patton and Dubai on angus cows, both affordable whiskey sons.

Thanks AAOK!!!! we are pretty excited about her. I am a big fan of old school genetics and plan to use more of the proven bulls.

Thanks for the compliments. I80 or Mercedes Benz could both be a possibility. Knabe, her dam is as sound as you can make one. I have only personally seen a dozen or so Suh sons and daughters in production and all seemed sound without any structure problem. Does he tend to throw cattle that lack enough flex from your experience? Most of the Suh progeny I saw were angus on the bottom side.

The Big Show / Dr. Who heifer

This is our Dr. Who heifer out of a GVC Suh x Aunt B cow. We are pretty excited about this calf. Her dam has raised 2 pretty good bulls and decided to give us a pretty neat heifer this year. We also lucked out and got a Sandeen Upper Class x Burn Baby Burn heifer calf. Most people our way are heifer heavy this year.

The Big Show / Calving season
« on: April 07, 2015, 06:48:13 PM »
We currently have the most exciting crop of calves to date. We are fortunate to have things swinging are way this year and are excited to see what the future holds. We have a Sandeen Upper Class x Lazy H Burn Baby Burn heifer calf (pic 1), a Dr. Who x GVC Suh/Aunt B heifer calf (pic 2). I80 x Aftershock/Aunt B heifer calf (Kittendorf calf) I80 x Kadabra (Kittendorf calf). Dr. Who x Strictly Business/Debull Heifer calf (Kittendorf calf), and a Jesse James x Ego Trip Heifer calf. Just wondering how everybody elses calving season has gone so far and are there any calves you are really excited about?

The Big Show / Sale of calf and registration.
« on: March 08, 2015, 05:01:39 PM »
Had a situation last year were I sold a calf. When I sold the calf I asked about where I send the registration papers. The buyer said not to worry about it. 6 months later after the buyer resold the calf for a large profit I get a text from them stating the person who purchased the animal wants papers and because I raised the calf it falls on me. I reminded them that they did not want it in the fall when the calf was sold. in the end, I got the calf registered (my membership had expired with the assc. after the first of the year, so i had extra cost in renewing my membership fee as well as additional cost for registering the calf after it was a year old). I avoided any conflict with the first person who bought the animal and then resold though my blood was boiling because I feel they did this so they could avoid paying any transfer fees, etc. was I over reacting in losing my temper over the situation? Any opinions on how it should have been handled to begin with?

The Big Show / I80 bull
« on: January 31, 2015, 07:04:09 PM »
This is a pic of a I80 bull we raised. he was really cool as a calf and I am very happy with the way he has matured. He ended up going to a good home. I had him posted on here for sale as a calf, but being in Michigan you cannot hardly give good cattle away.

Chopper is a Dream On, Bandwagon goes back to Dream On. I have seen some nice calves out of W/C Wide Track, also think Macho might work. I was a contending bidder on that cow and would have used Macho or the Maine bull GVC Suh. I have a Suh x Aunt B cow that has done a great job in just 2 calf crops with hopefully should be her best to date coming in the spring. good luck, great buy!!

The Big Show / Re: Opinions on Flushing Heifers?
« on: December 09, 2014, 04:27:49 PM »
Do not flush a heifer. a lot of promising females have been ruined when flushed as a virgin heifer. calve her out, then if you really think she is "donor" quality, haul her into Geunthers in okemos
