The Big Show / 4 years ago tomorrow (Why is the SP Logo Red?)
« on: March 20, 2013, 06:55:19 AM »
4 years ago tomorrow, we lost one of our original moderators, and my best friend Cathy , better known as "Red".  Miss you girl....I will say we were so lucky that Jason brought her in on his "little venture" way back when lol.  Many of us jumped ship from other boards to see what she was squawking about lol.

Here's to you Red....miss you, love you, and consider myself a better person because I called you my friend. <beer>

The Big Show / Happy Birthday Red! Share a Memory!
« on: October 26, 2012, 08:13:34 AM »
Happy Birthday to one of the great ones we lost to early... Red was one of our original moderators and brought many of us with her to the planet <alien> ;D.  Many  of you neower members may not know her, but she was fabulous, no newbie ever was on long without Red giving you positive karma and a "welcome".

She was my best friend...Happy Birthday Cathy and thank you for helping Jason on "the Planet!" :'( (clapping) :'( (clapping)

Let's share a memory, there are so many.  Mine would be the day I delivered her corgi Woody to her. I'm pulling up to the driveway and this crazy woman is jumping up and down waving her hands yelling.  It was the 1st time I met her face to face  :) her laugh was intoxicating and contagious.  Poor Woody was squished between us as we hugged, cried, and laughed

The Big Show / what I miss...
« on: September 16, 2012, 10:32:59 AM »
I know technology is great blah blah blah...but I really miss a real life show cattle auction.  Loading the kids up, going thru the calves, the excitement of an auctioneer....sadly I believe those are things of the past.  Right now I have 3 heifers I'm watching .#3 heifer closes first, #2 heifer closes second, and my #1 heifer is a phone bid off that could last a week.  ugh if it was a good old fashion auction it wham bam thank you mam you bought her lol.  Oh well, shame my youngest may never know the thrill of a live show heifer auction :'(  OK done venting...just stay away from the 3 heifers I'm looking at hahaha

The Big Show / DOT regulations in Iowa about pickups with trailers
« on: December 05, 2011, 12:37:52 PM »
OK, I live on the Iowa border in Missouri, and haul calves to the local salebarn across the border.  Is it true we need a DOT number on our truck to haul in there now?  I'm hearing terrible stories about state highway patrol hanging out at sale barns ticketing us Missouri people.  I even heard of a guy hauling lambs in a "popper" on a small trailer getting ticketed going to a show.  Is there any truth to this?  Heck, it'll affect our show schedule, routes to Jr. Nationals ect. if this is true.  Can they truely ticket an out of state truck with a trailer without a DOT number just for driving thru Iowa?  I really don't need a ticket or a fine

Cattle For Sale / Driver Maine-Tainer heifers for sale
« on: October 31, 2011, 09:30:52 AM »
I have 6 Driver heifers for sale.  They are reg. maine-tainers, could be simmi-solution but that would be your expense.  Purchased these from the heart of Major's Maines calf crop when they dispersed this summer.  Very hairy, and these heifers have super dispositions.   30 days weaned and 30 on feed right now.  Here are 2 pics of what I have, the other 4 are just as good and probably hairier than these.
Driver genetics are at a premium, and you'll be hard pressed to find a group at these prices.

I'm located in NW Missouri

Cattle For Sale / Driver heifers
« on: October 17, 2011, 09:10:14 AM »
I have 6 Driver heifers.  They carry Maine-Tainer papers on them right now.  Simmi papers would be up to you.  I'd prefer you to come see them in person.  These are really nice deep heifers.  Pictures don't do them justice.  These genetics are extremely hard to get.  Prices start at $3500.  We will have 2 showing at the American Royal at the Maine-Tainer show.

I'm Located in NW Missouri, Allendale, MO.

The Big Show / judges behavior...something to think about
« on: September 07, 2011, 10:10:18 AM »
This is something I've observed more and more the past couple years, and having a husband on a fairboard, we've heard numerous complaints on this.  Thought it would intice some good discussion.

What do you think of judges who after a show goes out and parties and enjoys the evening at the "winners" campers?  Even some getting drunk?

I honestly think they are to be like a ref. in a ball game.  Do your job then head out.  A ref. doesn't hang out in the winning teams locker room afterwards.  I don't think these families "cheated", but do you think this is a good example for the young kids at the show?

Just thought it would get some discussion going!  Golly, don't say I'm a sore looser ect.  As a fairboard members wife, many feel they can tell me a complaint and I should pass it along.  Other fairboard members who don't show much, or kids are not showing anymore thought it wasn't a big deal, just asking for your 2 cents.

Goat/Lamb Chat / Bracing problem
« on: June 14, 2011, 12:57:28 PM »
We have a darn good lamb, but have a problem.  My daughter (who is a pretty good shower) can get him to brace at home. He looks great.  Our problem is, when he gets to a show, he will not brace at all.  Its very fustrating having the breeder upset thinking we don't work the lambs ect.  I've shown lambs for years and never had this happen. I feel like I've let her down not knowing how to help her.
We've tried the stand, the trailer, even a swat on the butt.   It works great here, but not sure how to get him to brace at a show.
HELP! thanks :)
