The Big Show / Cow Choking on Placenta
« on: March 26, 2015, 03:03:39 PM »
Has anyone had a cow choke on her Placenta?  We try and remove it when ever we can but we can not be there all the time. We had one cow die on us a few days after she calved. She was up and eating after she calved everything looked good.  We found placenta in her throat.  Could she have choked on it when she was binning up her cud?

It finally warmed up a little so that we could get some pictures of our new herd sire "Sergeant At Arms".  We just did some rough clipping and blew him out after power misting him.

I see that they are selling IVF embryos mating one TH carrier to another TH carrier.  Can they pick out the embryos that are affected by TH and leave the carriers?

The Big Show / Steer Declare by Date
« on: July 30, 2014, 08:26:40 PM »
I am hearing that some 4-H clubs and Regional shows are putting in rules that 4-Her's have to own (declare) their steers before the end of September for June July shows.  When I was in 4-H we had to declare our steers at the end of December.  What are you local rules?  This is in Canada so any Canadians out there let me know what your declare date is.  We have some prospect sales in November like Canadian Western Agribition will this start to cut into our buyers?

The Big Show / ProFarm Panels

Has any one bought this type of Livestock Equipment made in China?   There always is some for sale at Ritchie Bros Auctions all over North America.  They are unused in the auction ad. Do they just dump panels and gates on to the market? Here is their web site http://www.profarmmanufacturing.com

The Big Show / Burger Ad

What is wrong with this Ad for burgers  ;D

I just got a new set of Andis excel 5 speed clippers that have the large box on the end of the cord.  Has anyone had problems with it not being durable.  Can you put a rubber covering on it?   If it breaks how hard is it to replace.

The Big Show / Keep as a bull or steer him?
« on: March 23, 2014, 05:25:02 PM »
I though I would start this thread to see what people think.  I know he is young we are waiting for a little while to see how he turns out.  He is  a MAB out of a Wazn't Me (Maine) cow.  This is our fist year for using MAB and really like the calves out of him.  MAB sure puts his stamp on them.   I have been looking for some more MAB semen in Canada but I think it has dried up and with his popularity in the US I do not think there will be much more coming up here. I was thinking he could be our in herd replacement for MAB genetics.  I really like his mother she is very strong phenotype.  He has tons of hair and it makes his head look a little funny with his coloring.

The Big Show / Griswold Cattle Co Sale are you going?
« on: December 14, 2013, 11:34:49 AM »
I have been looking through a lot of sale offerings lately as I have broke my leg and can't do much else.  I came across the Griswold sale and wish I could go to it.  I like the cows in the offering and if I was starting out in this business it might be a good place to pick up some good cows.
Have any of you looked them over and are you going? What do you think of them?

The Big Show / 3 very different heifers with pics
« on: October 15, 2013, 10:33:34 PM »
We have 3 very different heifers going to Canadian Western Agribition in Regina Sk this year.
The first heifer is a Thriller X Sun Seeker she is a real eye catcher. Her mom is one of our best looking cows moderate and good uttered.   I do not know what we are going to do with all that hair.  Is she too thick? If she was a steer we would have no problem selling her. She should make at least a good market heifer.
Second heifer is a Bodacious X Maine/Angus.  Her dam is a true half blood Maine Angus a big broody cow and she is following her moms pattern.  I like this heifers depth of body and length.

Third heifer is a Smilin Bob X Waznt Me.  She is a full sister to the Champion Steer at the Alameda 4-H Regional.  Her picture is not that good.  More impressive off the halter.  A real broody type of heifer.

Which one do you like?
