The Big Show / Performance enhancing drugs-cattle
« on: January 24, 2021, 07:31:14 AM »
I watched a show called Icarus and athletes doping. I got to wondering about show cattle. Is there a list of illegal drugs? Is testosterone illegal in cattle shows? I see it advertised for humans all the time. Does your herdsman need to be a bio chemist in order to complete? I see all these new products for sale in show cattle. What the heck is in this stuff? Is it approved for cattle.  I got to thinking about the "display" bulls out at Denver. I assume they aren't tested for steroids or anything. Not wanting cause problems or anything. Hyper oxygen chambers (instead of) coolers for cattle?

The Big Show / DS carriers? Are they easy keeping?
« on: November 22, 2020, 08:43:08 AM »
Seems like bulls showing that they are DS carriers. Do other people think that? Gismo and Proud jazz and etc.. I got to wondering if this was the case.......would DS be linked to an easy keeping gene? And if it was than DS would not be a real bad problem. It may be an advantage. Could gene editing be done in the future to utilize this knowledge. And could it be the the Shorthorn breeds advantage down the line.

He is supposed to sire 75% male calves. KNABE........explain this. The 25% of calves that were supposed to be males will grow and take on male characteristics. So..........will they have lady parts?

The Big Show / Show feed companies

Will they survive? I would think that their businesses are stressed becaused of Covid 19.

Seems like to me that 75% of todays Shorthorn breed's action is junior heifer projects. Not that it is good or bad. In past history or at todays levels......are other breeds like this?

I think Kansas decides on Monday whether to go or not. Could state organizations put on a little show for the heck of it?

Is there? Is it in that big package deal?

The Big Show / Bull libido problems
« on: May 12, 2020, 06:20:16 PM »
I turned out a 18 month old bull that I just bought. I haven't camped out down there watching him but I think something is wrong. He will sniff and mosey around cows but he acts uninterested and I have never seen him jump up on a female in heat. I wonder if it hurts him to mount? I remember 40 years ago dad had a bull that had a sore on his weiner and he bred no cows. He's the only bull in with 20 head. I guess I am thinking about turning in another bull. Maybe I could dna test calves later. Any past experiences?

I believe that Oklahoma was having a big one about June 1st. County fairs? Rodeos?

Loving's raise some. Is there anybody else? Is nobody doing black Shorthorns? And I'm not talking black plus genetic defect carrier trash genetics. I talking registered on both sides.
