I've got close to 30 wethers and bucklings that I am going to start weaning soon. What is a good weight gain ration?

Goat/Lamb Chat / Australians/New Zealanders
« on: April 25, 2013, 04:18:02 PM »
One of my friends from the states visited New Zealand and came back with soremouth injection guns and vials that you must have in order to administer the vaccine. We can't get them in the united states. I'm wondering how hard they are for you guys to acquire and if there is a place that would accept an order from the us. He made it sound like vets and reps give them away.

The Big Show / Long Range Wormer
« on: March 05, 2013, 11:06:11 PM »
Has anyone tried this new product yet? What were your results? What age group of animals was it the most beneficial for you? We had a rep come to town and discuss it with us but I'd like to hear a little more about it before I spend $.01/lbs to worm an animal twice a year.

The Big Show / Spooky Calf
« on: November 19, 2012, 11:07:24 PM »
A local kid is working one that won't stop running around the pen and has recently started throwing dirt in the air by pawing the ground and butting the pitch fork. The calf is only about 550lbs. He has a halter on it, he tied it a few times and it helped, I can't get to them to see what is going on so this is what I have heard, any advice? I've said twice a day sessions and to put a nose bud in him if he acts aggressive on the halter along with a radio and to whack him with a show stick on the nose if he tries to butt. Calf calm has helped, any other ideas?  The kid is a highschool football player so he's not small his advisor seemed to think the calf will be breakable.

The Big Show / Good enough for the newspaper?
« on: August 20, 2012, 02:16:13 AM »
So I have more mishaps then one tends to admit to. For some reason I felt it necessary to post them on facebook..........then I had two people ask me to write for newspapers and another to write a book, plus a bunch of others. It's kind of sad that I can screw up enough to come up with a book. Let's see what you guys think. My apologies for the spelling, grammar errors, I typically write the stories at about midnight.  www.oregonrancher.blogspot.com

The Big Show / Inducing labor................on a goat
« on: August 13, 2012, 01:43:47 PM »
Has anyone ever had to induce labor on a goat or sheep? I have a boer who is one day overdue and we need to leave tomorrow. Does the lutalayse method work? Not many people on this side show goats, but almost everyone with cattle runs them together so maybe I'll get lucky asking here.....

The Big Show / Breaking a steer
« on: July 11, 2012, 07:37:34 PM »
So I have been breaking steers now for about 17 years. Sometimes they will break sometimes you need to put them on the truck. I have a Grizzly steer that I have been pretty excited about in the barn right now. He has been in there since Sunday night. When I go out to look at him he runs the fence line. He has actually made a path in the ground. I brought in a mini horse to buddy up to him (no other calves available) and he has not even tried. He isn't mean, he just runs back and forth without breaking stride. I can stand in the corner and he will run up to me and not even see me, he's just running the fenceline. I rubbed him with the showstick today and he just ran back and forth not even noticing me. To the point of breathing with his mouth open and coughing. Any ideas? It's hot here and I don't want to cause pneumonia so I will be turning him out tomorrow or Saturday if I can't come up with a solution. He's just a really neat looking calf and I'm hoping someone else has dealt with this successfully before. He doesn't have a halter on and he doesn't appear to be eating his hay. When I go out there he immediately goes to running the fence. Any other calf would have gotten the boot, but he's pretty neat to look at. His breeding is Grizzly (sire) G13structure x dr who (dam), if that explains anything. I had hoped the structure would tone down the who but it's not looking like it

The Big Show / Gestation date question
« on: May 01, 2012, 09:48:22 PM »
What is the gestation for maine cows? We have a cow who calved yesterday and was AI bred July 10th, so she's either a little late or alot early. The calf is average size so I'm thinking late. The calf should be a mercedes benz if the ai took, angus if the bull got her

The Big Show / Bojo
« on: March 08, 2012, 12:43:51 PM »
So besides topsires, is there anywhere else you can order Bojo semen? Is he still tied up in court or whatever that deal was?

Any idea what his seman is going for? I see it going for $20-50. I tried to contact a distributor and haven't heard back, I'm just wondering if the $20-30 pricings haven't been updated.
