The Big Show / Had To Herd The Cows Out Of Flood With Helicopter
« on: May 27, 2015, 04:10:51 PM »
Took this picture Monday after we brought what was left of the cows up to high ground.  Took the picture from the working pens which is 1.5 miles from the Nueces River in Texas.  Only lost two head and feel pretty lucky.  Water is about three feet deep in picture.  Pray for those famines who have lost loved ones.  This one is bad.

The Big Show / Going To Induce... Any Objections? UPDATE:
« on: September 23, 2014, 03:00:52 PM »
She calved unassisted early this morning 33 hours after induction.  Beautiful silver heifer, but of course I wanted a bull :)

Here is the situation.  I have a cow bred to HeatWave that is due on Thursday.  We have to leave Sunday night or early Monday morning for the State Fair.  My thought was to induce her with Lut and Dex Thursday if she hasn't had the calve so I could be there to pull it before I leave. I know its not ideal but what are your thoughts? (argue)

Who is going, either to show or watch?  We will have a class one exotic. A steer I raised out of Walks Alone.  I cant wait, by far my favorite show of the year.  I will be doing Chiropractic work if anyone has or a need arises.  (clapping)

The Big Show / My Daughters Record Setting County Steer!!
« on: January 27, 2014, 09:47:46 AM »
We were very blessed this weekend with a $31,000 record setting bid on my daughters Grand Champion steer.  She has worked very hard over the years, seven to be exact, to get to this point and everyone is so proud of her. She also continued her undefeated run of sevens years winning steer and heifer showmanship.  Cannot put into words how proud I am of her.  Thanks to Bobby and Mandi Maddox for finding her this steer at Bonham Show Cattle.  Yes, we are a slick show, so no big hairy steer pictures. :)

Any reports yet?? I'm going to use him on American cross cows to try to get one that will classify.  Looks like he has some leather on his video.

Thanks

The Big Show / Bodacious Spring Born Steer
« on: November 13, 2013, 09:46:55 AM »
Thanks Colby Collins for putting another good one in my barn.  Despite a lot of rumors about sloppy fronts this one is bred right.  Pretty fronted and very gentle. Just a nice complete steer.

The Big Show / Question, 4 days past due with twins (updated: Pic )
« on: October 01, 2013, 09:12:34 AM »
I decided to palpate a cow this morning that is 4 days past due and found twins.  One calve is sitting nose front ready to go but I didn't feel the front feet.  I think they are folded under the chest. The other was head first sitting right at the first ones right hip.   My experience is that twins come early and not late.  So know I'm wondering. I had problems with her last year and had to pull her calve but don't think she will have that issue this year because these babies are small.

What would you do? Induce her now or wait?  Pros and cons...

The Big Show / AI Suggestions For Moderate Shorthorn Plus??
« on: September 11, 2013, 02:30:25 PM »
I'm looking for a bull to use on this moderate Shorthorn plus heifer.  She is a Thriller (Ali X Heatwave/who) daughter out of a registered shorty.  My original thought was to try and use something that I could paper if she had a heifer but I really don't know if there is a Shorthorn I would like on her.  I need something with low birth weight and a lot of grow to and power.  She is probably a 3.5 frame score.  Someone suggested a Simmy bull Grizzly but I'm open to Angus, Simmy, Shorty, are whatever but think I need pure bred.

I just had a good luck with Mr. Driven on a Monopoly heifer and I've heard he has a lot of grow to his calves. Open to suggestion from people with experience using the bull they mention.

Thanks..

The Big Show / Belt Buckle Bonanza
« on: July 03, 2013, 09:22:39 AM »
Heading out in a few hours and want to wish everyone safe travels.  Look forward to seeing Chambero, Twistedshowstock, Showstopper, and Bart.  I would like meet any other SP members that might be attending this year as well.  My wife is in charge of the steer division so if any Families have any questions about the cattle shows or banquet in general just ask for Dr. Fletcher and I will get you the answer.  I will also be roaming the barn doing Chiropractic work on all species so if you wanna check it out feel free to look me up and you can observe how well it works.

Safe Travels

The Big Show / Repeat/Booster Shots On Your 7 & 8 way Vaccinations?
« on: April 02, 2013, 10:02:37 AM »
Just wondering how many out there do the repeat in 3-4 weeks on you calves?  When we work or commercial cattle the calves are not brought back up in 3-4 weeks to repeat the dose.  They are worked twice a year so we are covered on the annual after that but not the initial booster. How many of you do repeat the shot like the instructions read?

Also, on show cattle, I can't tell you how many times we have bought calves and been told ''they've had their shots.''  Do you vaccinate these calves when you get them home and perform a repeat, just do them once, or not at all?  On our show calves I will go ahead and re-vaccinate and repeat.

Just wondering how everyone is doing it.

Thanks
