The Big Show / Haul from Illinois to Nebraska
« on: November 06, 2017, 04:01:06 PM »
Looking for a haul for an open heifer from Illinois to central Nebraska.  Of course can meet on I-80, or somewhere agreed upon.  Drop me an email or a DM.  Thanks.

The Big Show / Re: Giving donors shots

Conventional flush..still plenty of shots needed!

Not to highjack the thread, but has anyone gotten along well with the one shot protocol on IVF?  I tried it on 2 this spring, got 1 and 3 embryos.  Went back to the 3 day protocol, and the third donor averaged close to 30 on 3 flushes.

I was not brave enough to try the one shot protocol on her; she was working too well.

The Big Show / ET pregnancy rates
« on: September 22, 2017, 08:26:26 AM »
It's the time of year that lots of folks are calculating conception rates, be that ai, or ET.  I'm curious how those rates vary across the board.

Just talked to a larger ET facility, and they told me that they average 45-55% typically, on conventional, frozen embryos.  I was surprised, as this seems toward the low end to me.

Curious what everyone on here sees for ET conception rates.

Thanks,

The Big Show / Re: Spray bottle for fly spray
« on: June 27, 2016, 11:31:48 AM »
Jamie,

It's called a Spray Master.  I've tried them too, and they do work awhile; longer than any I've tired.  They are a great company to work with as far as holding up the warranty...send a new one right out.

I'm trying that sprayer right now, but each time we get done using it, take the sprayer out and empty, and put a cap on the bottle....seems to be working...

I think letting the sprayer sit in the fly spray solution is ruining it....

To make my point a touch more clear...

I have no problem with people making a profit...but I want my customers to be satisfied and I want them make a profit also!

The Big Show / Spray bottle for fly spray
« on: June 24, 2016, 10:08:15 AM »
Does anyone have a recommendation for a spray bottle that works for fly spray (oil based)?  Seems like whatever kind I try, they are shot in a week or 2.

Thanks for any help.

Haven't been on here lately, but thought I'd chime in.

Legally, the seller probably needs to do nothing.  However, we need to get past that.  If the seller is in the business for the long haul, and enjoys the business...he is doing it for more than the money.  Go out of your way to make sure the buyer is totally satisfied with his purchase.

We've all worked with people who are only interested in the profit that they can make...and that can be quite discouraging.  When one understands that there is much more to the cattle business (and life) than the money you make, you will start enjoying it much more!

The Big Show / Re: Werning Simmentals Sale Results?

I was told this morning by one of the ringmen that bulls averaged right around $8k, and the top pair was $36k.

He certainly looks like he'll make a bull to me.  Someone ought to really like the combination of Built Right and Monopoly.   I'd leave them in....performance is certainly good enough also.

Last time it sold on an auction, I think I remember $65 or $75 a unit.  I think you might have to work to find it for that price now....

Very interesting...

Flunixin and dexamethasone are steroids that we commonly use in our treatment regime at our place for many, many situations....I would have to think there is some threshold type of "level" that the residue would have to be at before it would be considered performance enhancing, illegal, or anything of the sort?

How long can the residue last from these steroids?  Could this have been given to a young animal as part of a pnuemonia treatment protocol and still show up as a finished fat?  I'm curious as to the answers.

I might've been guilty of unknowingly cheating through the years....????

I'm not familiar with the other substances, and am certainly not taking sides...just asking some questions.

Bred a couple Simmy heifers to him late last breeding season.  They came on time and came easy.  Jet black, excellent looking calves.  Will positively use him in 2015 breeding!

The Big Show / Re: can't register calves
« on: April 03, 2015, 03:48:11 PM »
Ok, I've read enough and have to chime in here....

People need to realize....there are much more important things than money!!!!

This fellow bought a certain mating, and probably paid a pretty good price for the embryos.  Granted, he did a great job placing in quality recips and got 3 resulting calves.  But the mating IS NOT what he paid good money for!!!

Simple solution....buyer gets his money back.  He is free to do whatever he wants with the calves.  If he gets them registered as 1/2 bloods and makes good money, great for him.  He was faced with many hurdles to make that profit.

Bottom line is he made a purchase of one particular mating...did not get that mating.  Odds are very high that he wouldn't have paid near the purchase price for Broker embryos from a miscellaneous unknown donor!

Not my place to say who owes him the money....i'd assume whoever got the proceeds from the sale.

That's mine opinion and how we operate around here.  Customer will always be treated fairly, even if it is a loss to us.

Many things more important that money!

Have a swell Easter, everyone!
