ML makes a great point.  Asterisk free has merit and can add value.  We all know that past pedigrees may not all be exactly true, however they are in the herdbooks.  JIT, what percentages of todays shorthorn catalogs you read offer askterisk free cattle?  Not very many.  I'm not saying asterisk free is the answer by all means, but I think it could help the breed with some of the problems it faces.  I do agree with JIT, that cattle should be judged on quality first.  Just because we find an amp of semen it doesn't automaticly makes it good.  It goes the same way with a National Champion dam.  The fact of a calfs mother has a purple banner, doesnt always make it a quality calf.  All people judge cattle differently therefor the need for all kind of cattle.

Everybody seems to be in search of the new "outcross" shorthorn bull to use.  CF Trump has had a huge impact in the breed and people either love him, or hate him.  Double Stuff made a big splash with the club calf world, but he didn't last very long when the genetic defects came out.  Now the latest craze is jpj beacuse of leader 21.  I think those three pedigrees have value to those individuals that seek those genetics.  I asked about asterisk free bulls because they would probably not be considered "main stream" shorthorn genetics.  I don't know much about the bulls that were imported from Ireland or Australia.  Just wondering if those genetics should be tapped back into?

If you had the chance to use any asterisk free shorthorn bulls, which ones would they be?  Would like the semen to be somewhat available.

Mainly want easy calving.  After that, want them to have adequate growth and easy fleshing.  Also have some eye appeal as well.  I would like to keep some replacements and bull out of the whole deal.  Oh, no reds.  Prefer to keep everything black.

We've been using SAV Final Answer on our heifers the last few years and been getting along great with him.  This year we kept quite a few daughters out of him and looking for another proven sire to breed those to.  Has anyone had much luck using Connealy Final Product?  Or is there any other bull I should be looking at?   Thanks
