I think If you actually read what I wrote you would have noticed the last sentence where I said that I suspect most kids don't. So I don't think I'm delusional, but thanks. Now I remember why I rarely ever post on here.

99% of those calves are bought by wealthy parents.. I don't know any kid who spends their own money on a calf. What is the difference if the calf is bought by your parents or by someone outside of your family? Just my thinking.
You must not get out much. My child purchased a heifer with show winnings. It's not a national champ or anything but my kiddo owns it.
hmmm
My kids each get a heifer as a gift out of the herd for their 1st year in 4-H. Nothing fancy. The show winnings I was referring to was from showmanship as well as animal placing's. They show a couple species at several fairs, so it didn't take more then 4 years to save enough for the heifer. So no, they didn't buy the first but they are slowly building their own herds. I was just shocked that the above poster didn't know ANY kids that bought their own animals. Don't get me wrong, I fully suspect most don't.

Guy I know is doing that right now with one of his heifers. Eldest son was finished showing steers year. He had a damn good heifer born on his farm this year and there was a kid in the community who always wanted to run with the big dogs but his parents wouldn't support it. Being family friends, he called him up.. The owner pays for everything and even houses it, it's a great deal for both of them- Jr. gets a great heifer to show, and owner gets to keep tooling around with show cattle.
What does the kid get out of this? Certainly isn't learning how to take care of the animal when all they do is show up at the show and drag it through the ring. I hate when this happens at local 4-H/FFA shows.

The thing that annoys me the most at County Fairs is when judges place the class on eye contact. What good does watching the judge the most do if the calf is standing there not set up? I'd rather the calf be presented to the judge then the exhibitor staring down the judge.

I'm trying to warn you that animals that put too much fat in their reproductive areas is not good for fertility or milk. I'm trying to warn you don't be too disappointed if she does t milk or breed on the same interval.
The article is very informative.
Thanks for the article, very useful.

Here is one of the Lut heifers for Firesweep, we are extremely happy with her, she is lot 44 on Sullivan's Maternal Legends sale. Her full sister (Lot 45) isn't too shabby either.
Do you have a video?

Does anyone know where I could find a simple show pig clip art that I could use to make my son some name cards for out county fairs. I tried to google it, but they are all tiny preview pictures. Thanks

I am presently waiting on a new Eby trailer to arrive( 7X 28). I looked at many different makes, including the Elite trailer, and my decision came down to either an Eby or Wilson. The Elite was slightly lower priced but IMO, it was also not made quite as good either, IMO. I was also able to get a few options on the Eby that were not available on most other trailers. Both the Eby and Wilson had waiting lists of several months, so they must be selling lots of them. Most of the other trailers I considered could make a trailer to my specs within a few weeks. Eby had the longest wait of 5 months but I lucked out and was able to get a spot several weeks earlier when someone cancelled and my salesman called in a favor with the company.
All in all there are lots of good trailers on the market and what you get depends on how much you use it and what you use it for. I also have a 7X 20 aluminum Featherlite which is OK but I have already had some welds break on it with only limited use ( mostly my wife's horses).
What made the decision for you between Wilson and Eby. I'm getting ready to order, and it's down to these choices as well. Can't decide for sure what I want to do.

She's pretty green. Toss some feed to her and see what happens. Honestly for my kids I was more worried about a really quiet critter for them to start out with then winning everything out of the gate.

Anyone that watched any part of this trial knows the prosecution had no case. Their star witnesses did nothing to help their case. They actually helped the defense. The only people that think justice wasn't served have racial motives, or know nothing of the case. They turned George Zimmerman into a white person, even though he is biracial. It's not even the black against white people case they tried to make it.
