When are you looking to breed these heifers/cows? We have a bull Wise's influential 407 that we used to clean up heifers. His semen will be available this fall. BW 69 lbs sired by Mav Bellringer and out of a Saskvalley bonanza daughter. $CE in top 5% of breed, free of all defects, and phenotypically acceptable.

I need a little more information.....what is his BW, WW, YW, registration # and is he THF PHAF and DSF. As far as quality I love his pedigree and his phenotype. May be a tick moderate for my liking, but the photo of his dam would make me willing to give him a try.

Wise guy would you conside or 33x to be a sure of longer ribbed cattle or just average he looks short from his pic but it's hard to judge deep ribbed cattle in a picture

33X is not short bodied just exceptionally deep sided. He tends to sire cattle with more than adequate length of body. For my personal taste the longer, deeper, and wider the better. The most weight on a moderate frame of 6 or less is our goal. 33X is a 6 frame and all of his calve tend to follow suit. He weighed 2450 lbs in the picture posted.

Is Imperative suitable for heifers?

No I would not. In three calf crops we have never touched a calf. This year his heifers avg BW is 78 and bulls avg BW is 85. Some people would call that heifer safe. However, he will throw a mid 90 lb calf.

Thank you all for your help it is greatly appreciated! What I am looking for in bulls is a bull that will give some maternal, growth and muscle.  Also a little belly wouldn't hurt.  Thanks again for everyone's help!

I wanted to post a picture of this 33X son. I just turned in his final data to the ASA. Yes he is sure the wrong color, and his BW is suitable for cows, but not heifers. However, he achieved this growth on 1 month of creep prior to weaning and 15 lbs of grain and free choice grass hay since. If he was solid red he would have sold a long time ago.
BW 94 ADJ WW 898 ADJ YW 1423

If it is growth and muscle you are after then 33X may be your answer.

The older hiefer is the spitten image of him-right down to the leg cocked forward and the ears down a little just like him: put a butt on em and you are in business: thats why hes gonna work outside the purebred box-just passes the look because hes got all the old faraway genetics: HOWD he look on the Cates genetics-like thiers or like HIM? O0

Mark the older heifer is out of a WHR Sonny cow that was ALL-American Winter Heifer calf in 2005 or 2006. So I think it is safe to say they look like HIM. He is also homo polled for anyone interested.

As far as Muridale Jaxson I tried to get Scot to price that bull the first time I saw a picture of him as a calf. He of course knew what he had and said he thought he would keep him. His pedigree is fool proof and hopefully Scot will post a picture of his Dam so you can see what an easy keeping cow looks like.

Saskvalley Imperative semen is housed at Interglobe Genetics in Pontiac, Illinois. Send me a PM or add Wise Shorthorns on Facebook for more information. Semen is $25 a unit. Attached is an Imperative daughter that will calve this month to OCC U Bet. Also attached a fall heifer and bull calf by 33X.

The Big Show / Re: Saskvalley Yesterday 116Y progeny and other

The article I was referencing was from Beef magazine in which a vet found that when operations had a large sampling of Breech calves they were mostly always from the same sire group. I always thought it was the calf just not turning correctly during gestation. Again, these are just "ideas" not enough evidence. For me I will be using Yesterday another year on heifers and a few cows. The quality thus far makes me willing to handle the "risk."

As far as terrain, I live in one of the flattest places in Illinois. In fact, the area is nicknamed "race-horse flats" so I'm sure that had nothing to do with it.  I probably would have never commented had Duncraggan not mentioned his breech calf.

I am very high on Yesterday and have had 4 calves by him in the last week. However, your post triggered an interest as two of mine were malpresentations with one breech and one with both front legs folded under. I've done some research and breech births are often associated with the sire. However, my test sample is very small and I am interested in others experience.

Wise guy really like the calves. Is your bull picture the sire of them? He really looks really good.

Yes their sire is the bull in my Avatar. He is a Saskvalley Ramrod son.

Love the roan calf and his dam.  What is the breeding on the cow? Just enough splash to make you look at her! (thumbsup)

Thanks Hilltop.... Cow is a K-Kim Castlerock out of a WHR Sonny cow. Her mother was a past  Jr. Show champion at Denver. Her color is strange to say the least. I have never seen another one marked like her.

I think this is close to accurate. How are the calves off the bull you bought last year?

Here are a few pics of some calves by Saskvalley Imperative 33X. We bought 33X last year in the Who's Your Daddy Bull Sale. We are extremely pleased with the calving ease and quality of the 33X calves.

Carl the calves are outstanding! We couldn't be more pleased with them, and I hope to get some pictures posted soon for everyone to see.

I really liked the Lot 13 and Lot 51 bulls. Excellent set top to bottom.
