I was wondering if I added a little silage to my steers ration, would it give him a little " bloom " for a show I have in 3 weeks?
I have heard it work and I have heard its a waste of time. Does anyone have any advise?

Thanks,

What else is in your ration? We need to know how much he is eating and perhaps a weight would help too. Thanks. <cowboy>

Well to start off he weighs 600ish right now the show is in 3 weeks, he is getting a corn pellet oat steer mix for feed right now, and free choice hay. What im trying to do is just give him a little extra bloom for the show.

At 600 lbs your steer should be consuming about 15lbs of feed daily plus the freechoice hay he is receiving. I hope you are feeding an ionophor like bovatech or rumensin, it might be in the feed already. I would add that for sure, this basically makes sure the calf runs on all 8 cylinders (or 4 if your Kit Pharo) and increases the efficiency of the rumen. In a case like this I would recommend winning fill instead of silage. I have tried to feed silage to show calves but in the end it can be difficult to get them to eat enough concentrate. 3 weeks is plenty of time to get your calf looking tip top shape. If you have any other questions send me a pm.

winning fill is haylage with a high price tag.  If you happen to know someone that put s up haylage or wet wraps hay buy a bale from them.
