I wanted to post a pic of my county fair steer. Yesterday he was selected Champion at the 2011 Alachua County Youth Fair. Thanks to all the people who help put the fair on so that us exhibitors have the opportunity to show livestock projects in our fine state of Florida. My steer weighed 1260 pounds. He is out of a son of Jazz and and a 004xMayflower cow. Good Luck to everyone with showmanship and the brreding shows on Sunday and Monday.

I swung by on my way further south and definitely agreed with the judge on this one.  You had a very solid calf and it was fairly obvious when y'all hit the ring that he should win, in my eyes at least.  Congrats and good luck in the future

I wanted to give an update on this steer. About a week after the fair we received notice that he was selected as the carcass champion as well. I was very excited to hear that news. What is even better and the reason for the update is that today we got a call informing us that he was selected as the state carcass contest champion. The Florida Cattlemans Association and the University of Florida get together and evaluate all the carcass contest winners from all the counties in the state. They chose this steer as their carcass champion. I am on cloud nine. Never did i image a show season like this one. I am very excited to hold this honor. I have to send a special thanks to Mr. Larry Lindsey, the Sand family and Jon Hill because if it weren't for these people I would not have been able to exhibit the best steer i have ever raised. i am very grateful. Here is his carcass data if anyone is interested.

Wt-1260  Carcass Wt-781  RE-16.1  FT-.31  KPH-2.5%  IMF-6.5%  Marb-Mod  QG-C  YG-1.6

congrats!!  we sold a steer that won state carcass a few years ago and it's pretty sweet.  For those of y'all that don't know, all of the county fairs and any show that collects carcass data in the state reports that data to the extension service and they and the cattlemen select a grand champion carcass.  2 years ago it was just a pasture calf with some charolais in him that scanned an 18 inch eye, prime, and YG 2, awesome calf
