I have never had the procedure myself but I believe it works in many circumstances.  My Dad had it for a bulging disc and really believed that it helped.  I also went with a friend of mine that has migraines associated with neck stiffness and pain and she felt quite a bit of relief afterward.  I talked alot with the acupuncturist while we were there and the concept makes sense.  She claimed that acupuncture can treat anything that Western medicine treats.  I am a veterinary technician, so I believe in the science of "regular" medicine, but I also accept that other methods (acupuncture, chiropractic, etc.) have thier place.  There has been too much success with these and other holistic treatments to discount them as crocks.
You should definately talk to a licensed acupuncturist as part of your research.

My brother had acupuncture done to quit smoking cigarettes. He was a heavy smoker. 2-3 packs a day. Hasn't smoked since. Told me two days after it was done that he wished he could put 7 cigarettes in his mouth and smoke them all at once.lol. He didn't and has been smoke free for almost 3 years now. Also think he was motivated to quit as his first child was on the way. I have always thought it was a combination of both that helped him shake the habit.
