I know that this is a redundant question, but I am looking for an angus bull that has a combination of good looks and above average growth. Would SAV Net Worth serve this purpose, or does a bull like Rodman have enough grow ? What would you guys reccomend ?

What do want to do with the calves. Show ring replacement females, breeding bulls for feeder calves. Different bulls for different jobs.

The goal in mind is to produce a bull good enough to improve a commercial herd.

There might be bettter bulls out there for some herds than Net Worth ,maybe i'm forgetting what other people need , but for my herd the 4200's have put more meat, bone, guts and more fleshing or easy keeping ability in my herd with some extra size ,with no calving problems ...My cows proably compared to one of the big herds that I see sometimes are small .. My biggest cow fits on there bottom end of size , the SCOTLAND bulls won't work for me cause they are to small, they need those ton cows some guys have ....Different climate and regions also dictate what we need in our herd ....Some herds proably don't have the kinda disposition to mix with 4200.
The other thing is the ones that I have raised every one wants to buy ,an I sure need that ....makes hard to keep those heifers in the herd ....

Hey Feddy have you used any 24J. Net Worth is popular over here as far as bulls go but many are looking to a bull like 24J for females.

I have sold semen to commercial guys over here and liked the bull, he's proably more functional than some I have used but never knew if he was big enough
for my customers who always want more lbs. ...I tried DUFFS NEW EDITION 6108 AN LIKED THE EXTRA MEAT ,bone and capacity that we have in a couple son's ,and this spring we are calving heifers out of one of them and he has a +4.0 birth EPD , wasn't about half that last year ,but he is working great, one of my friends had a HEAT WAVE heifer with him and no problems and is bragging about her calf ..... What are the qualities of 24J that you like ......

Sorry olsun don't want to hijack the thread but I will answer the question. I liked the balance he brings he is a good all rounder there are properly better bulls to produce females or bulls but he covers both bases well. His bulls scan well and have plenty of muscle and his females carry that great udder and fertility that 24J's sire is renowned for. He is a bit small for me that is why I like 781. I think 781 is alot calmer in temperament than 338 his sire and has clicked with my herd. Leachman Right Time sons and grand sons have been used heavily at home for the past few years.

Freddy and Aussie, I respect and appreciate  your comments. Freddy, would you tell me what you meant about disposition  of the Net Worth cattle ? Thanks to both of you, and what about SAV Bismark ?

My father in law has had some really good luck with the Bismarks.  Also look at Champion Hill Angus to see how they are with eye appeal.

Net Worth has a negative 7 for disposition. About one of ten of his daughters are man eaters. Genex boys will tell you the same. And I will 2nd Bismark. Darn good bull

On NET WORTH ,some of these Angus breeder already have disposition problems so this really accelerates his problems ...We have had one bull that I critized his disposition and one of my rancher cuustomers said that was no problems and the packers were telling him there is a premium for the cattle he had been bringing them and they wanted more and he had been using all NET WORTH sons ....

I agree with Freddy on the disposition of Net Worths.  If you breed him to a docile cow you won't have a problem. If you use him on something that has a bad attitude they can be pretty nasty.  There isn't any grey area with this bull.  I worked on one about a year ago that was straight up evil.  She was truly amazing to look at but once you got her in a close place it got pretty interesting.  You really had to be on your toes!

Aussie, one bull that we used last year in place of Net Worth was Heavy Hitter.  I thought he was supposed to be more docile than Net worth but his DOC epd was like a -12.  So far his calves seem to be pups.  I really like the way they're made you just need something a little more moderate for him.  Anybody else had had any Heavy Hitters?
