Has this mating run its course or is it still popular. The ET center found a couple of these out of Ryan Went's angus donor 87 in my stash. I don't know whether to put them in, sell them, or throw them out.

Some of the better club calves we saw were Meyer x Angus dams  by heatwave. We are not big clubby people, but I don't think you can go wrong club or maternal with that mating.

If you go to throw them out or sell them cheap, I have a use for them.  I made a bet with a youngster that I hope to lose and plan on paying her with a calf or two.  Either way, let me know if you decide not to use them.

I think there would be interest. Heck i'm interested.
That is definitely a mating that has a ton of potential for good maternal cows.

I think the cow is long dead. She came from Sonderup Angus in Nebr.. I traded for 10 embryos, put in 8 and got 4 bulls and 2 heifers that was 5 years ago so these could be the other heifers in the flush.

One could have shown but got foot rot really bad at weaning and always favored it after that. Sold her as a bred.  Other was stout but not real pretty, sold her as a bred. Bulls were typical Meyer x Ang., sold as heifer bulls to a large outfit.

Was this the Bando 598 donor?  I think that was the pedigree of the high seller Ryan bought on the dispersal...If so, we had a Meyer flush out of her too.  Calves were pretty good.  I only recall one hiefer and she was nice.  Had a bunch of bulls that all made decent bulls.

The issue behind a post like this makes me laugh.  We (including me) worry that something old doesnt work any more because we dont read about it in magazines.  Remember people put in magazines what they want to sell, not what they are keeping for themselves.

Our Meyer cows are still our best producers.

Lots of good old proven frozen genetics out there that will make money.  Many eggs go cheap exactly for the reasons chambero mentions.  Good cattle genetics change slowly.

I have a Heat Wave daughter out of that cross.  In 28 months she went from calf, to show heifer with 17 Breed Championships and numerous Supreme buckles.  Tyler Melroe said "This heifer wowed me when she walked into the ring" about her at this year's Fort Worth Livestock Show.  And then she put a Jesse James Heifer calf on the ground at 23 1/2 months, milked hard in the Texas heat all summer and is going to wean me a heifer every bit if not better than she was.  IMO, Meyer x Angus cows will never go out of style.
