Anybody out there going to AZ National?  We'll be taking some of our Reds.  Wish we could take some of our Durham Reds but can't because of the show's 3/4 blood rule---darn it!  Would love to actually get a chance to meet some of you.  This site feels like family, even when we have "heated" discussions & differences of opinion!  Thanks you guys for being yourselves...

Im taking five brangus heifers and two bulls...hopefully there will be some other brangus there because we have a really nice may heifer that i think could stand up to some competition.

Great idea to get to meet some of you.  I will be there with my daughter's animals.  She will be showing her hereford heifer, and a maine heifer.  Then we will be running a maine spring heifer through the Sun Classic show and sale.  Name the day and time.  We could meet in the members club or we could meet at the New Years party.

I was wanting to go but none of my heifers are high percents this year. I hate the 75% rule. I might be helping some friends if they are going.

I agree on the 75% rule, it does make it hard to get in there in show.  We are in the same boat.  Only taking two of our 6 heifers.  Hopefully with the budget cut, next year they might open it up to everyone.  Also would love to see an open jackpot show there in stead of just an Arizona jackpot show.  If they get more numbers they may be able to keep their heads above water and continue with the show.  We need more people to write in and suggest dropping these rules.  I think it would make for a great show.

I think the maine people tried when the maine tainers got started and they told them they didn't want cross breeds.  ::) I think if they have a paper of some kind they should be able to show in there breeds or all other breeds. the jackpot show for everybody would be nice too.

usually if the have a registration paper for lower % you can show them as AOB's. At least that's how Ohio does it.

Hey ya'll, thanks for the responses.  I also wish they would rescind the 3/4 rule.  What I could gather when I talked by phone to the open beef show superintendent was that they had a few problems way back when with the Chi's & Chi crosses.  Since the Durham Red is a separate breed recognized by ASA (and I guess the Maintainer is the same w/ Maine Assn) I think their 3/4 rule should be ruled obsolete.  Unfortunately the NM State Fair also has the 3/4 rule in their AOB show.  The South Plains Fair in Lubbock TX AOB show only requires a registration paper by a recognized breed, so after 19 years showing in Albuquerque we're skipping it and going to TX with our DRs.  Actually I've gotten to where I enjoy showing AOB more than straight Red Angus 'cause I like to visit with the "other breeds" folks & discuss the attributes of their breeds and no one is pushing their breeding program at me when I'm perfectly happy with the way my program has gone all these years!

We will be in the open beef barn but we do like to wander thru the other barns so maybe we will find you all.  We're bringing our oldest grandson this time & maybe next year he can bring a junior heifer to show.

Chis and chi crosses seem to always be an issue, but a good heifer and a good cow is still a good heifer or cow no matter what the breed.  Let the people show their best no matter what it is.  If you raised it and you are proud of it it shouldn't matter what breed it is or isn't. Or at least open it up in the junior show and leave it the same for the open.  I still hope that with the budget cut they open their eyes and realize they can use all the entries they can get to keep the show going whether it is a 1/4 to a pure bred.  The loss of ANLS would be a huge disappointment.  We love going and will continue to go.

We will be in the Open and the Junior barns as well as the Sun classic heifer area.  We have a 87% maine heifer we raised out of strictly business cow and power plus going through the show and sale and our daughter will be showing in the juniors with a hereford and a maine.  It's going to be fun.  Looking forward to meeting some of you guys

The New Mexico State fair through that rule out at the fair this year. Next year if you have a paper you can show. They changed it when there was only 3 heifers showed up so they went to the junior barn and told the kids if they had a heifer that was papered that wasn't hereford or angus they could show in the aob. Chi, shorthorn plus and maine tainers showed.
