Just wondering what people thought of their BC Lookout calves.
Will they make good cows?
Is he calving ease?

Thanks

We used 20 units so i hope they turn out. Two things worry me, 1. Emblazon on top side 2. He is smaller but we bred to big framed cows so it should be ok. I was impressed with the calves out of him in denver.

I would not call him a heifer bull.  When we bought semen and started breeding heifers to him his CE was 10 and by the time the calves were born it was 4.  They were not huge but we had to help a few of them.  Our calves seemed to have enough grow in them.

I really like mine.  Worked good on Bushwacker bred cattle and 004s. Really pretty, attractive heifers.  Bulls were stout enough to sell, even a couple that would have made nice Angus show steers.

Not sure what GC's problem with Emblazon is, I consider that a positive.

I know when I see Emblazon I get a little worried about frame size.  Don't get me wrong.....I can appreciate an Ohlde bred female with the best of them, but I just don't see enough grow in them to fit my scenario consistently.

We had 2 heifers calf to BC Lookout last spring unassisted. I love the calves. One is my sons first show heifer. She is out of a TC Foreman x Northern Improvement. The other Lookout we still have and is still for sale.

I would not call him an easy calving bull, I had to help almost half of them. The Morgans Directions came right out. Not much diffence in size, more so how the calves are designed. I liked the MD calves better, had more of a look to them.

Its just my angus have got to have performance and and all the occ lineup i have been across will flat take it out of them. JMO. We used some BC matrix (emblazon) last year, when you look at them on a side profile they are not bad, but as soon as you walk behind them it alsmost makes you sick, they are just that narrow and light muscled.

One of the best ways to use those OCC bulls like Emblazon and Legend is on Simmental cows and heifers.  They are easy calving, reduce frame and add fleshing ability.  We love the 1/2 blood females out of these bulls.  BC Lookout is similar except I know he has more birth weight (not a heifer bull) and will add more growth.

Unless I'm wrong, LOOKOUT'S MOTHER isnt a OCC  type female, she should have some grow AN THICKNESS TO HER ....
the Lookout females an bulls we have had , two were tremendous an other's sure were OK
A  couple years ago every Genex man or dealer told me don't use Matrix because he was good from the side an terrible from the back.... Last time I talked to Bill I asked him which two bulls to use of his an he said LOOKOUT AND Big Daddy  ......

I saw Lookouts momma and she was a big girl!  I think her frame breeds more true with marathon while Lookout follows Ohlde cattle to an extent.  I also wouldn't characterize Matrix as an example of what OCC cattle give you.  Most Ohlde cattle that I have seen have been real wide and smaller framed.

I had 2 out of first calf heifers last year and love them both.  A 78# bull calf out of a EXAR New Look and a 84# heifer out of a TC Grid Topper 355..  The bull calf is moderate like his mother but very deep and soft and sound with a lot of power.  He is selling at the Minnesota Angus breeders sale in March.  You can watch our web site for updates.  The heifer is our daughters B/O Angus heifer for this year.  She has been second both times out at MN Beef Expo and Badger.  She is the most powerful Angus heifer I have ever worked with.  And she has the look and is so sound and soft moving.  All the Lookouts I have seen have been really sound and have that loose structure and movement I like.
If not for the new Style bull and a couple others I would use him on everything I could.  Most of our cows are a little bigger so that may complement him.

Here is our heifer.

In response to RTMCC we have a June 1 Lookout bull calf and her is absolutely awesome.  I wish we could get him in a good place outdoors for a picture.  We are planning to keep him for a herd bull.  He was out of a show heifer we had that without looking at the records who a Dr. Who cow and was her first calf and was not large in size but hit the ground running and was not sick and day in his life thus far.

A Lookout heifer from our spring calf crop last year an sold in our fall sale for 1700.oo ,she was out of one of our Profitline cows, we didn't use him on first calf heifers, I just don't use a bull on heifers until they are pretty well proven, EPD can really be off if not high accuracy ...  Had a Charolais bull go from  -4. on birth to +4 in one year an no calves on the ground yet ....

We had a Lookout heifer win the Spring Heifer Calf division @ Ft. Worth. Out of a first calf heifer, who was a division reserve herself 2 years ago. She is a great mix of femininity and power. We will breed more that way, mostly bigger cows. Mike Christian, Christian Cattle Co.

I would agree if performance is your main goal occ genetics work great in a simangus situation.  The bull in my aviator is an emblazon son we use with great succes on pb simmental and simangus cows.  His daughters are some of the best cows we have ever owned and the breeding flexability is great.  He is an Emblazon x 9fb3.

We use Lookout of Simmy heifers with caution; he certainly will NOT calve as easy as his sire, but you also will have more calf in the end out of Lookout.  I like them, but I might still just like the Legends a touch more since they come soooo easy.

BC Matrix....without doubt, he was the bull that I was the most disappointed with when seeing him in person.  The bull had unbelievable depth of body, but from behind....you could hardly believe how narrow he was.  Just didn't seem possible to have a combination like he did.
