Right now in Indiana it's above 100 degrees and I was wanting to know what you all do to keep your calves cool and keep as much hair as possible. I'm rinsing three times a day, morning, noon, and night. I turn the mister on from 12 to about 5 with two power fans in the barn. I go out in between noon and 5 and pour a bucket of cool water on him and brush har forward. Luckily he's still has some hair left! My fair is about a month away... Let me know what you do!!!

We are in Mississippi and it is 100 here as well! We rinse, brush and blow two to three times a day and keep them in a dark barn with fans! This time last year we were doing the same thing and had twice the hair! It is just so hot early this year. Good luck

How many times do you blow dry a day? I've just been rinsing and brushing hair forward... then sticking him under the fans. Hope your is eating well! I've been lucky in that mine has been eating a lot! Btw how much are you feeding your steers? My fair is at the end of July and he is starting to get a little fat on his topline... should I keep feeding him the same?

After rinsing you should always blow dry. If you leave them wet it will trap in their body heat. Don't feel bad I used to do the same thing. Also as you probably know a brush will be your best friend. A roto brush works well also if you have one. Good luck.

Ok thanks, people have always told me to leave wet under fans but I guess I had better change that! :)

If you have an outdoor wash rack I wouldn't drag them outside in the middle of the day. I don't have one indoors so morning and night is what they get also try getting them in before it gets warm. Feeding and digestion causes a rise in body temperature so do it when it is cooler.
