Does anybody know if out of state people can show in the Belt Buckle Bonanza or if bulls can show there?

ACTUALLY: For the first time in many years the 2011 IS  Open to Out of State Exhibitors, all exhibitors will be required to have a valid health certificate.  However, there is not a bull show!

Why do a lot of shows in Texas not allow bulls to show? Every show in Louisiana involves bulls.

simmyman67...I grew up in Louisiana started in the Jr shows in 1992 and finished in 2001 when I graduated. You will find that Louisiana is the exception here. The majority of states do not allow bulls to show in their Jr shows and most if not all of the Jr Breed association shows only allow bred and owned bulls to show.  Most states limit their beef projects to heifers and steers.
They do it as a safety concern, and I understand it. But as someone whose first Jr project was a bull I have to say that my bulls were always better behaved than my heifers.  Unlike heifers bulls dont get that once a month problem that females of most species get.But on the turnside if there is a heifer in heat a bull could get a little out of control I suppose.

Are there problems with having heifers in heat and bulls at the same weekend jackpot show?? I could see the potential for big time problems..

rack you would be surprised how little of a problem having the bulls at the shows really is...like simmyman said if you grow up in the jr livestock program in Louisiana bulls are just a natural part of it.  Every one of the Jr shows in Louisiana from Jackpots, the LJLA (which is run by the same folks as TJLA by the way), Parish Shows, State Fair, District Shows, and the State Show. All allow bulls to show, I would venture to say that heifers cause about 3 times more trouble than bulls if not more.
Like I said my heifers always had far more attitude and temperament problems than my bulls, and I started with Americans.  I even knew a guy who raised Maine's and took his 7 yr old tgranddaughter to show in the open shows.  He would send her in the ring with a 2 yr old bull without flinching, but refused to let her go in the ring with a heifer at that age.  I cant recall ever having an issue with a bull when a heifer in heat was around.  When they have been in the showring since they were little, first thing on their mind is showing it seems. And if one did try to mount something it didnt take much of a tug on that nose ring to get their attention.
I dont think you would see many more wrecks if you added bulls to the line up, and the ones you did see would still probably be likely caused by heifers if you asked me. But thats just my opinion, and I am not advocating Texas adding bulls to Jr Shows, but at same time I wouldnt be against it if they did.

I agree, heifers cause the problems a lot of the time, not bulls. Heifers are the ones getting loose and dragging people. Most people who show have heifers and bulls and keep them together or near each other for the most part, so they are used to being around each other. I have never seen a bull get loose because of a heifer in heat, and I have been to A LOT of shows. I like it that I can show my bulls and heifers at every show I go to in Louisiana.
