Blow and Show- tips on the tail head?

We just got done with our District Fair which was a Fit Show. This week is our County Fair which is a blow and show where no adhesives or paints are allowed. Any tips as to how to get the tailhead to hold up?

If you're allowed to put product in the hair, just not aerosol I'd get some Doc Brannen's Hair Set. It's what I use for non-aerosol shows or when picturing cattle that I don't want to have to wash out. It's pretty good stuff; for tailheads I spray a bit on either side just until the hair is a bit damp and then use a hair straightener to really set it in place. I've had good luck with that but I've never done that long of a tailhead with hair set. It's at least worth a try at home assuming that you're allowed to use some products. Good luck!

Just did a no fit show...well, call it no adhesive show.

I got some Colgate Shaving Creme for sensitive skin.  You can get it a Walgreens.  It is the one with the orange label. 

It has some type of lotion in it, and it will get just plain sticky!

Foam him really really good the night before, and blow blow blow.  It will get almost tacky.  Put it everywhere, including legs.

The next morning, just rinse.  I was surprised how much of the hold remained in the hair.  Then just a light coat before the show.

If it starts to get a little too sticky, spray some plain rubbing alcohol on it, and blow it out.  It will free up some of the stickiness. 

Nice steer by the way.  We showed one that looked exactly like yours...stood 2nd in class.  Shoot!

Some blow and shows use the test of pulling a comb through questionable spots - it needs to pull through the hair freely.  Only seen it done if someone questions (protests), but if they do you have to have some basis to determine if the rules are being followed.  Usually foam/mousse or lighter hair sets pass this test easily, but it's something to keep in mind...

In Texas we have sort of mastered the art of blow and go as Fort Worth is our only fitted show. And we have found if you go to Walmart and buy the extra hold hair spray for women if works wonders I can't remember the certain brand we found but it's oil with some crazy good hold if you blow it in real good and work the hair to get it to stand. Then we clip it in and looks good will pass the rag, or pull test.

a flat iron/hair straightener will help as well
