I have 20 head of mostly Angus 3 an 4 year old cows that I am considering offering for sale next year. What semen shouold I consider to get the most attention from potential buyers. Breeding for late Jan or Feb calves.

Where are you looking to sell and what market are you looking at? Steers or heifer? Steers born in Jan here would get too big for our county fairs, March and Aprils are better. Jan born heifers on the other hand are always liked. Simmental half bloods are hot right now and always in demand. Maine/Angus halfs are good too. Tell us what you are wanting and maybe you would get some more ideas.

If you have clubbie connections and can figure out the next biggest hyped up bull use him. Right now for me it would be Smilin Bob, Amen, or Simple Math. Stands Alone looks very complete also. If you think you have a better chance in the commercial industry, I would say the best name recognizable Bald faced Simi bull that you can find, possibly sexed female semen if you think that it would help selling them and be economical.

Hard core steer producers more often than not are looking to buy individuals, not groups of cows.

I would guess most of your potential buyers - both show cattle oriented (relatively few) and good commercial outfits (much larger market) - are going to be more interested in maternal genetics.  To capture the wides potential market - breed them Simi - something with a name to catch the show cattle folks eye.  Your potential commercial buyers won't care as long as they are Simi bulls.  Good options for Simi bulls are almost endless, but I would consider any of the good Meyer sons (i.e. Macho), Steel Force or Chopper, or Star Power (probably a real good choice from a popularity standpoint).

If you have one or two standout cows, you could go show steer sire on those.
