I had to post this. My two boys fight like cats and dogs on good days!! My wife and do the normal parent things we all do when we with cow pen specials on the bottom(another post)
As far as kids go mine are 180 degrees opposites! My oldest is the model showman calm cool and collected while youngest is your typical ADD poster child for ridalin choosing to instead to go where the wind blows him and parents be dammed.
We are at our county show waiting for his class to be called he has two calves that ended up in same class so oldest volunteered to show one for him. As we are are waiting youngest asked if he could go up to the show barn I said sure but come right back it's almost time to show. (my first mistake) as they are calling classes up to the show ring we still do not see hide nor hair of him wife at this time is in ramping up her panic mode status. I'm calling all the people on my phone list have called the local sheriff to place an APB out him.
My Dad who had been the stands waiting had heard the announcement over the P.A system had just seen him and chased him down! (yet another stoy to be told)
As we are walking cattle to ring my dad walks up with my son as they get closer I hear my wife exclaim where on earth have you been? Tone and inflection of her statement understandably was one of shall we say concern!
I notice my dad with hands on my youngest son's neck not sure if that was for my son's protection or if indeed as I had personal experience with his own ability to pop mine and my brothers head off at neck and then reattach our heads before anyone else ever notices . As ge approached us I see my own son had just experienced this himself. Stll alive and somewhat browbeat, he proclaims in a voice that is full of his brand of what the hell is the big deal. States and I quote "WHAT?".
We gather him up and get the cattle to the ring and start the show.
Now to my point. Walking to the ring with a bad mind set does not make for a good situation. His calf was not working well for him in top of his frustration the situation went from bad to worse Somehow the show stick got stepped on by the calf and piped my son right between eyes the ring steward see's this and grads the halter. Now in my son's defense he never stopped trying and working.
After getting his wits back and the rest of calves settled down my eldest called the ring steward over and asked to switch calves with his brother. That simple gesture made my year they do love each other!! I cried right there It was not our day in the ring with the calves but it has just become the highlight todate of pride I feel for my kids and their love for onesnother
Collin oldest is 12 Braxton youngest is 10.
Braxton then went onto winning the junior showmanship buckle so he came out a winner in the end. I love you boys!
