My breeding season is only about 6 weeks away so I got to start making some decisions on bulls. What do you all think would work on a Shorty Plus sired by Vegas out of a Dateline Angus cow ? Obviously I'm after a live calf but sure would want one that wouldn't be a throw away. I thought about Northern Improvement b/c I had great luck with him but any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would try JPJ and make the 3/4 sh. You have had great luck with JPj?? Make some blue roans.

Vegas on a Dateline....... hmmmmmm.... well for black hard to beat ol who made who or a son. Angus tho, I would give her a shot of G13 Structure. I know all older bulls but proven. These are bulls I have seen work for folks around here. I have always wanted to breed a trump deal to Leachman Saugahatchee 3000. I still have one straw left of him but can never bring myself to use it. Good luck.

The heifer IS a blue. Breeding her to another roan and he has a chance of a white one.

Frostie - you need to write all those color combos down and send them to me !!!!! BTW, the Char/Shorty that I bred to Northern Improvement last year had a black calf with white markings. What % of the calves out of my blue roan heifer and JPJ could be white ?

A blue roan to a red roan will give you the following.
25 a hetro black
25 another blue
25 red roan
25 white

Remind me what colour was the heifer again. Was she just a cream or cream/roan.

That's what I thought. I have one just like her.
Now what you are calling black and white is also a blue. Look very closely at the edges of the spots. Look at the belly, tail, under the tail, between the back legs, on the head and brisket. I am sure you will find a place where the hairs are mixed together. It does not take many but you will find them. A true spotted one will have very distinct edges between the colours. A roan will have co-mingling somewhere. I would check the belly very good.
