What can anyone tell me about this program? are they still in business? Type of cattle? It seems like I remember some good looking bulls in the shorthorn country in the mid 90s. I would like to see pics of there bulls if someone had some they could post

Still there. They are about 45 minutes from me. Lots of cows last time I went. They are using some JSF bulls that go back to some older Byland breeding. They sell cattle at the Ohio beef expo and off the farm I believe.

Byland Goldspear and Byland Mission come to my mind immediately. They have some newer bulls with Jake's proud jazz influence. I will dig up those photos.

Byland bought interest in JSF Gauge as well.

There was Byland Pattern, Byland Victory, Byland Gold Plated- (Armstrong Gold) too.  Don't forget the Eagle either.

Dazzler the father of Kkim Dazzler hence TM Dazzler.

These are big bulls.  Designer, gold dust, gold walk, dazzler, etc.  very big!  I always thought that dazzler, in the early nineties, was the last of the 9+ frame bulls to compete for nation champion or reserve...like the frame scores, and preceding era, went down hill from the time he stood reserve champ to warrior....and towered over everything.  Trump and doublestuff were born about 1.5 years later and in no time turned the tables on the show ring....and fear of a new belt buckle cattle era ensued (even though frame scores were still higher than they are today.)

Ol LCS Designer sure has an interesting pedigree. I was just looking at it when studying JR DROVER 05X's.
Xbar,
I have two heifers out of jr drover 053x. One is pretty special JHk kristi 21 but I expected her to have more depth. What is your experience with his brothers calves?

What does everyone think of mission? I don't really care for his picture myself.

I have a couple Mission daughters here and I love them. Both are moderate sized females with great udders and very fertile. The set of Mission daughters at Cagwin Farms are as good a set of brood cows that you will see anywhere. Don Cagwin says Mission left the best set of cows they ever had on his farm, and I would agree with him.

I think the Byland program is one of the better breeding units around and I think they have produced enough breed leading bulls and females over the years to indicate they are authentic. This herd has been around for many years and will probably be around for many more. They always bring out a solid set of consignments to any sale they go to. I have heard the Gauge offspring at Byland would may you a believer in him.

Of the Enticer sons at Byland-Goldwalk looked to be the biggest, along with Instant Attention,Spotlight and others.Deertrail Awesome was the biggest of them all,and Byland used him a good bit for awhile. But some of Awsomes calves were pretty moderate-and one:Byland Dazzler(1991) was-and still is a force in the breed-and one of first bulls to start moderating size and BWS-through his use at Brochmuellers.Kevin Kimmerling saw that and produced several really good bulls and females. One: K-Kim Dazzler was a national champoion, but for whatever reason (probably his dam) was a taller lankier version. Gb Daybreak Express is another Dazzler son that really works-and is part Linciln Red with some maine back there. He was used alot by clubby breeders because of his low BWs- There is JMO-a really good( hieferand all around) young bull raised by Franz farms at Bollums (I think) in Minnesota that sired one of the better breds in Scrags last sale. Hes called FF Redman:and is out of a full sister to Daybreak Express.. O0

From what I can remember and I have been to every Ohio Beef expo just about, the mission cattle weren't near as framey as some of the Byland cattle can get. They are larger made cattle in general but there cattle were always presented well and sold well. The brothers keep tabs on performance and are a wealth of knowledge. They never seem to be the first one to jump on a trend. The Mission females as JIT said were excellent mothers. The Eagle family of bulls seem to put more mass in the cattle then some of the other bulls. I am not sure if you have seen the RB Eagles, but I will attach pics of some. BTW Byland Cindy Beauty and Byland Velvet are two of my favorite female families they raise.

ps
last pic thks ot Okotoks

I think they have made some real swings at getting the bigger cows toned down without loosing to much growth. That's a slippery slope. To many times we chase fads instead of breed for what works for us. I would have to say those folks are navigating that slope pretty well. The cattle they sold at Ohio expo were very good. Nothing that screams outlier or unsound. Just good performing cattle. They could probably need bred a couple generations of showy type bulls to win against the big dogs if you went that way. Is there a pic of Daybreak Express?

One of the reasons I bought Gauge semen, the predictability of the Byland programme!
