Charolais Banner website says that Cam Sparrow was judging and it looks like him in the champion pictures but could not tell for sure.  I was wondering if the champion happened to be one of the champions from Weyburn 4H show.

I am thinking that is the same steer that won the Weyburn regional last week. That makes some sense as Midale Petroleum purchased the steer in the Weyburn sale, and Dale Hardy did the buying ( Roger Hardy's ( Sooline) father. The steer looks like the same steer as well.

Champion was a solid steer, maybe not exactly a "show steer" but solid none the less.  Reserve wouldn't have been my choice for reserve, again not a bad choice though.  Not nearly the political mess that has occurred the last couple years.
I do get the feeling that this show is in trouble though, not exactly sure how the numbers compare over the last few years.  Just seemed to be a smaller show this year.  It'd be too bad to see its demise, but with the purebred shows being dropped there a couple years ago I wonder how long it will be before the steer show has the same fate.  There were just under 90 head this year, my opinion if it drops to 75 or lower it will likely be looking at the chopping block.

I knew where he was going with his champion after his closing comments in which he stated he "... wanted a high yeilding steer, and this is where our breed, the charolais breed, does this the better than any other." I liked that champ calf, just thought he was a little stale for the day and got a little course through his front. IMO the reserve simmi, who was also champion steer at Lloyd earlier in the week, was one heck of a calf.
As for the lack of numbers, i think the fact that the Stampede moved their junior beef show to a new location at Olds. Very few juniors had steers this year. It also did not allow the parents of kids at the show who usually have a steer in the show to compete since the steers would have been stalled an hour away, at the stampede grounds.
