I have a nice big angus cow out of ER Falcon K177 (out of S A F Fame) on the top side and Vermilion Janie 4132 (out of leachman right time) on the bottom. I'm a newbie to angus breeding and could really use some help. I would like to keep the calf pb. I would like something that would be functional and show. Here's the bulls I have on hand... BR Midland, Connealy Danny Boy, Gambles Hot Rod, TC Freedom 104, and PVF New Horizon 001. Any idea's? Thanks in advance

Is your cow deep ribbed? Or a bit "refined"?
If she is deep and "broody", I would go with TC Freedom. He will fancy them up without sacrificing thickness.
If your cow needs some depth and "umph"....I would go with BR Midland. He will stouten them up, add thickness and still maintain a nice attractive package.
I like Gambles Hot Rod, but he is a bit inconsistant to recommend without seeing the cow!
Good luck

I would vote for Danny Boy...would moderate the bigger Fame influence.  Have seen some nice Danny's and think they will make good functional cattle too.  Freedom on a Fame could make them a little leathery up front, but he would be my second choice.

I think Midland would be a good choice. in my opinion, not many bulls can but so many good things together like midland can.though he's a pretty big bull ( high 6-7 frame) he has never added frame to any of our cows. his daughters our excellent mothers, great udders and disposition, and really pack a punch when it comes to growth.whether bulls or heifers, they are very marketable. it seems like when it comes down to it, the midlands are typically out favorites at weaning.as for what type of cows i have used him on,we usually put him on cows that nedd more thickness and growth, but have also used him on deep broody females with excellent results. i have seen good show cattle out of him as well.
Wishing you the best of luck!! ;D

Did he mature out to be that tall?  I seen him at Midland when he sold as a calf and I wouldn't have guessed him over 6.

Thanks,

Every bull stud ive seem him in lists him as a 7 frame except for angussemen.com, who calls him a high six frame bull. I cant find any actual measurments though.I think he gets his height from neutron, his dams sire. I have seen some big show heifers from him, but they must get big off of certain cows cuz even my 'good sized ' cows have moderate calves from him. His yearling height epd has also gone down alot since he sold at midland - its a .1 now :)

If you have to use one from your list, I would use TC Freedom. Hard to say without actually seeing your cow.
Totally agree with Rusty, would like to see you use something newer. If thats an option, I would use Mytty In Focus, or Dr J Analyst M250. Both are throwing some awesome calves. Especially on 878, EXT, Blockbuster mommas. You can buy sexed semen now at ABS for In Focus.
