I was looking to approach the librarian (school) about getting a couple of subscriptions concerning the cattle industry and the show cattle industry.  I would love to hear opinions about publications that would work for middle school students.  If there is a show mag. that has pictures and good articles about how to show, fit, and information on showmanship... that would be awesome as well!

Thanks

You might be able to get some of the breed magazines free if you talk to them about it being for a school. I think some state cattlemen's associations do that, but don't quote me.

We have "The Showbox" in Texas.  It comes out monthly. I'm assuming you don't live in Texas or you'd probably know about it. If that's the case idk how much of it would appeal to you, and come to think of it I've never seen any articles about fitting or showmanship or anything like that. It's my favorite magazine by far though. You can go to theshowbox.com to check it out.

Check this out-

http://www.agyouth.com

It's based in Oklahoma, but has a much wider circulation, and tries to include stuff from where ever they can.  It covers all species, but I think it may be pretty close to what you're looking for.

Looks good!  I will run that by our librarian and Principal and find out what they think.  It looks good though!  Thanks a bunch!

Beef Magazine - not show cattel related but has lots of info about breeding, raising, marketing, commerical cattle, and has lots of info about cattle in general
http://beefmagazine.com/

the American Simmental Association puts out a FREE magazine geared toward cattlemen, comerical producers and its got ads, peer reviewed articles, and lots of good info, including the Sire Summary... its called SimmTalk,  i belive it comes out 2-3 times a year , heres the link to sign up for it

ASA also has an official publication called the "Register" , it is monthly deal, and i don't know what a subscription costs, but can be found at the same site the SimTalk is at.

Show Circuit is always good, espeically the editions with everyones fall sales, it allows you to look through and get some ideas of what cattle are out there to buy if you are looking for the next season's HF / Steer and its a good "john reader too"

Livestock Plus - more focused on midwest area, i started getting this one and have really like it, has alot of smaller (and the big ones) breeders in it, so you can find so more variety of cattle from around Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa and Mizz.
