I headed for Iowa last tuesday with a Bull and a Cow and got into some bad fuel. Took out an injector in Morris Ill. Truck was in the shop for 4 days. If there is a good thing about this story it is the people we meet in our travels being in the cattle business. As luck would have it I broke down 40 miles south of St. Charles Ill. This is the home of Scott Hortorn and family of Horton Family Shorthorns. I called Ryan and he came and hauled my trailer and the cattle back up to Scott's farm. They put me up for the night and then when my truck still wasn't done Scott sent me the rest of the way with his truck and trailer and then he and Ryan went and picked my truck up from the dealer when it was finished. It got me to thinking about how lucky we are to be in this business. I'll bet that if everyone thought about it for a minute you could think of someone you have met and made freinds with over the years, at shows and sales who you could call if you were in my situation. It's a good feeling to know that when your a 1000 miles from home that there is a cowman just over the next hill if needed.

It also gave me a chance to look at the heifers Scott and Ryan are taking to the Illinois state sale this weekend. The June Ricky Bobby heifer is a powerhouse. She would stand alot of heat at the Junior Nationals in Michigan this summer. If you are looking for that heifer to show take the trip to Springfield. She will turn some heads.

I completely agree with you. Cattle people, and people in agriculture in general, are some of the greatest & most honest people there are. I have never met people more willing to help! I have really enjoyed making so many friends & being a part of such truly good people. Including all of the people I've gotten to know via steerplanet! I only hope that I can be as good as those I know.

Horton's are Grade A #1 folks. To be honest, it doesn't surprise me much at all that they did such a nice thing for you. They're very good people, and I am proud to call them friends!

A quick note about Jr. Nationals for IL folks- as I understand it, if we go to Jr. Nationals, those cattle will be quarantined for 60 days upon return from Michigan. We are the ONLY state that I know of that requires this, and I'm confused as to why, since East Lansing is below the Quarantine line.

Scott and Ryan are two of the nicest people that I have ever met!  They would be at the top of my list to call if in a bind.

These are the type of people that you meet along the way that makes a guy keep going to shows!  <beer>

Justin,
The reason it's a problem is because Illinois does not recognize zones for TB, it only sees the state of Michigan as having TB.  After talking to Janet it's sounds like it's very unlikely to change.  It would take legislative action not just the department of AG.  There is a way around it, we'll talk this weekend.  Hope you can still help with the onion heads.

Sorry to hijack the thread.
