I headed for Iowa last tuesday with a Bull and a Cow and got into some bad fuel. Took out an injector in Morris Ill. Truck was in the shop for 4 days. If there is a good thing about this story it is the people we meet in our travels being in the cattle business. As luck would have it I broke down 40 miles south of St. Charles Ill. This is the home of Scott Hortorn and family of Horton Family Shorthorns. I called Ryan and he came and hauled my trailer and the cattle back up to Scott's farm. They put me up for the night and then when my truck still wasn't done Scott sent me the rest of the way with his truck and trailer and then he and Ryan went and picked my truck up from the dealer when it was finished. It got me to thinking about how lucky we are to be in this business. I'll bet that if everyone thought about it for a minute you could think of someone you have met and made freinds with over the years, at shows and sales who you could call if you were in my situation. It's a good feeling to know that when your a 1000 miles from home that there is a cowman just over the next hill if needed.
It also gave me a chance to look at the heifers Scott and Ryan are taking to the Illinois state sale this weekend. The June Ricky Bobby heifer is a powerhouse. She would stand alot of heat at the Junior Nationals in Michigan this summer. If you are looking for that heifer to show take the trip to Springfield. She will turn some heads.
