I have a triple bred LHD Cigar female that I am going ot flush.  I want to flush her to a PB Charolais bull to hopefully get some good females.  What PB charolais bull would you recommend or have used with good results?  Thank you for any information.

If she does not have any Wyoming Wind in her pedigree, I would sure look at one of his sons or grand sons.  The Fast Tracks and Kojacks also make good females.  RCC Cold Font is a Owaha Wind son that we really like the calves out of.  You can find him on Cattle Visions or at www.redalencattleco.com

We also really like our heifer calf out of MT/LHS Lead On out of a first calf Kojak Daughter out of Cold Fronts full sister pictured.

With out a doubt two of the most popular blood lines  in the Charolais breed for show cattle in my opinon are the Cigars which make great females an are pretty hard to fine. Wyoming Wind is definitely the other one an if you could fine the semen , Bovine Elite might have some or SEK. The Cigars don't need a big muscled , hard calving sire.

Popeye is probably the best most successful purebred charolais sire out there. His steers have won multiple major shows and his females could be his best asset.

DLB,

Not enough information to give any recommendations. Is she a heifer?  What are her EPDs like?  Want to improve growth?  What about fertility bags, muscle? I would like to see an outcross bull.  Look at the bull sale catalog.  If one of the reference sires interests you call him up and get some semen.
In the following link HEJ and Gerrard have some herd sires that would interest you.  Gerrard Charolais used Somkester (Cigar son) so you will get an idea of what nicks with the Cigar bloodline:

Also check out Sparrows:

Mark, she is a heifer....BUT currently is bred for her 1st. natural calf.  He EPDs are pretty good.  She has a low BR, plenty of grow, MA.  I would like to add a shot more of muscle.  What I am looking for is a bull to flush her to.  Also, Just to clarify....this Kojack bull is that Baldridge Kojack or the Baumann's Kojack Bull?  Or is that the same bull and I don't know it?

what im going to use this year is RC Denver and LT Bluegrass...both are calving ease bulls...bluegrass is an assertion son who is a big name for the charolais industry and denver is out of three trees wind...i have a heifer calf out of D&D INXS the national champion bull from last year...he is a wyoming wind son that will add depth muscle and length...i hope that helps..also i would say they are talking about KASS KOJACK because Baldridge Kojack semen is no longer available

Gilbert,

KASS KOJACK aside from his show career has lousy EPDs with a +25 LB yearling EPD.  He also has low accuracy (no calves yet) on a birth weight of +2.4 LB.  His sire Sparrows Madrid is over +7 LB on birth weight.  The cow must be out of very low birth weight  stock to get his projected birth weight EPD down to +2.4.  How this bull will turn out is any ones guess since their is no consistent traits being selected for in this pedigree.  Things will have to improve drastically to give him any performance credibility.  To make a bull worth flushing a cow to or just using on purebred cows you need excellent EPDs , showability, and maternal power.  No compromises allowed.
LT Bluegrass and Baldridge Fasttrack are pure calving ease bulls for use on heifers.  If you are looking to add muscle and/or performance far better choices exist. The herd bulls in the catalogs linked to are better prospects since they have produced calves, have good EPDs and are out of cows with good maternal traits.  Also their owners are stockmen that show and make their living on purebreds.  If you specifics on a bull just ask them.  They sell to many people and don't need the hassle from making a bull something he is not.  Plenty of other bulls that would work exist but these sales show what will work on a Cigar female.

I was referring to the Baldrige Kojack sired by Baldrige Fasttrack.  True proven female producing genetics.

RTMCC,

While you are at it,  for calving ease female producers the old bull Baldrige Fasttrack has turned out some very impressive females as well.  For the best female producer of all time: Monte Carlo. He is strictly used on flushed cows and you would have to give up half the embryos to get the semen-worth it on the right cow.

I would suggest LT Assertion or M6 Grid Maker.  I suppose it depends on what type of female you are looking for.  Grid Maker females have been doing a good job and it is still an outcross with your Cigar breeding.  If your cow is a little "iffy" on hip structure, then I would not use GridMaker, but if she's good hipped and legged, that would be fine.  If you could find some RC Budsmydad genetics, that would also work.  Wyoming Wind and his sons have also crossed well with Cigar females.

I'm going to throw a question out here and don't tar and feather me I'm just asking, I've been there done that.
If this is a heifer just now bred for her 1st calf, what are you flushing her for?  You don't know what will or won't work on her and she may never have a calf that is worth anything.  I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm, but our best looking heifers are many times the ones we get sale barn calves out of.  Why not wait until you know what breeding clicks on her before you spend big money on high dollar semen and flushing expenses.

We are going to use RC Denver on my March heifer...he is a Three Trees Wind son and a good calving ease bull...I have seen heifers and a bull out of him that were very nice...He maybe one of the best in the breeds very soon
